Location: With my son on the water | Guys
I really need some help.
We (my son and I) have been using Revo 50s in the winch and HS the last 3 ish years and we love them. Now my son wants to make the switch and cast right and crank left. Can't say I blame him as it is more efficient.
My problem is I can not find a Revo 51 HS any where (not made any more either). It looks like I need to switch to another reel. Can you please give me you advice what a good left hand reel is that still has roughly 30 inches of line pick up?
If you know where I can find a 51 HS that would work too.
Thanks B |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Abu Garcia came out with a new version of that reel. It is the Revo Toro NaCL. they have them in the 50, 51, 60 and 61. They have all the models again. Both the Winch and the HS are featured but they now brought back the 5.4:1 ratio due to popular demand. get the HS if you like it. But I own a 5.4 and it is the best reel I have EVER used.
here is a link to THorne Brothers website (store in Blaine MN)

They have them online or in store.
Also check Muskyshop.com (here is that link)

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Hmmm, I guess I never paid close enough attention. I knew they had a 51 and 61. But I didn't think they discriminated against the HS when making both. Sorry about that dude.
I would go with the 5.4:1 still. You have the added power with the lower ratio, but yet still just fast enough. It is a great all around reel.
Can I ask what you will be using it for?
OR what about the Shimano Curado 301E? Here is a link for the Curado. 28" per crank. That is an AWESOME reel. I don't own one but have used plenty. I think that will most likely be my next reel. Unless I get another NaCL or a Tranx

Location: With my son on the water | You are correct the 5:4 is a good all around reel.
My son will probably end up with two setups. He is a young kid and I want to do it right as this tackle will see many year of use.
The 5:4 setup will probably be for (Jerks, & cranks) on his 7'6" rod. The HS speed will be for blades and surface on his 8'6"
That's basically what we have been running in the Revo 50s and they work really well for us.
I still would like to find a Revo 51 HS.
Thanks |

Location: With my son on the water | The Curado may be an option but I wish it was faster. I also looked up the reviews on the web and it didn't come accross as being nearly as good as a Revo? |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I know of people that swear by both. I have buddies that only own Revos and buddies that Only own Curados. Both will take thier preferences to the grave too. I like both equally. I just happened to buy the Revo first, thus don'town a Curado. But I really really like them.
The only thing I would avoid on a Curado would be Double 10s. Double 8s are no problem. but 10s can be a little much |

How do you guys do with the Curados without the level wind going back and forth when you cast?
Why do you say you would avoid 10s with a Curado? Hard to crank or damage the reel? (Because we throw 10s all the time with our Revo 50s without any problems)
Thanks |

| In my opinion a disengaging level wind is not an issue at all in a narrow spool reel like the Curado. You can probably cast your lures further than you can get an effective hookset. As far as the issue with casting 10's I think the reel will hold up fairly well but it's a beast to crank those in with that reel. The Revo 5.4:1 at 26" per crank is plenty fast for blades and won't kill the kid. The power handle (included) will also help make the retrieve easier. |

Location: With my son on the water | Thanks for all the info guys
Both reels definetely sound like quality reels and it comes down to personal preference.
I picked up a Revo 51 in 5:4 off ebay for a fair price. I know I can change the gears out to 6:5 in less than 5 minutes so I have one reel. Now I need to find another.
