Location: Freedom, WI | I know a lot of you are from Wisconsin, and of those, I'm assuming some have fished Shawano Lake for muskies. So where and what strategies do you use to catch muskies on Shawano? I really would like to know because I have never caught a muskie before and I mainly fish Shawano Lake because its a good lake and its relatively close. So far I know that bucktails work good, and more specifically, a #5 mepps. |

Location: Appleton, WI | Work the weed edges with a buck tail and they are there. Shawano is a high prssure lake and they see a lot of baits. my favorite collor is a white body with nickle blades. It always seems to preduce for me up there. |

Perhaps you should take a guide out on the lake. Not only will you learn how to fish the lake but you will also learn tips to help you musky fish more. Knowledge is key and musky fishing may seem like cast and retrieving only but it is actually a lot more technique. If you have never caught a musky before Id say you could use some help to jump start you on this obsession.

Location: Green Bay, Titletown, WI | I would stay away from small buck tails, unless you don't mind catching pike and bass all day. There are a lot of weed covered humps on that lake that break into 10-15 feet of water. Fish all over the humps. Burn bucktails over and through the top of the weeds, fish the edges of the humps, and fish the open water around them. Very your retrieve until you hook up. I put 4 muskie in the boat last wednesday there, all on buck tails, all on a different retrieve style. There are a ton of muskie in that lake, including 50 inchers.

Location: Freedom, WI | Thanks for the advice. I thought the #5 Mepps was too small too, but it seemed to work for lots of the people on lake link. One guy even caught a 49" on one. They were saying a #5 mepps with a plain gold spinners. I wish I could get a guide, but I just don't have the money. On the map I think I see the exact humps you're talking about (the ones in the map below I think). Thanks again! This will really help a lot.

Location: Green Bay, Titletown, WI | The modern day world record was caught on a fat head minnow and jig. Yes muskie will eat small lures, but so will everything else. I catch bass and pike on dbl 10's out there, the only difference, they're big bass and pike worth catching! Your on the right track with your map. To help you a little more... If your boat is in deep water (10 feet and deeper) and there are weeds sticking out of the water near you, fish there. |

Location: Freedom, WI | I don't discriminate against the small fish, I wanna catch em' all  , but yeah I see where your coming from. Although the bass don't seem to care what size the lure is. I've caught bass out there that were smaller than the lure. |
