Hi Guys,

Planning my first trip to LOTW next year - probably July.
Is Jakes Northwest Angle a good resort pick?
Is North West Angle area a good pick for musky fishing?

Any input appreciated.

Thanks
Doonan

I have stayed at Jakes a few times ten years ago or so. Nice place, but its a pretty good boat ride to fishable water.

The NW Angle is a great place to fish. I would stay out on the islands, fishable water is in every direction. My preference is Baystore Camp on Oak Island.

I winterfish out of jakes, great place, but as said it adds another 7-9 miles to get over to oak island area to start heading up from there

I had a trailer at Jakes for a number of years and now have a cabin located on the same creek.

Jakes has great modern cabins and marina. They advertise the lowest gas prices at the Angle, which is a good thing.

Having boated out to the islands more times than I can possibly remember, its usually no big deal. In the morning it allows me to have a big cup of coffee.

If you are planning a trip for next year, I would book it now. Jakes tends to get filled pretty fast.

I am not an expert but I listened to many of the people on here who are when planning my trip. I too will be going for the first time next year. I planned my trip for mid July.

I will be staying at Flag island but gave good thought to sunset lodge resort too. Seems like more people prefer angle inlet or walsh's bay store camp. I really chose where i did mostly based on the rental boat situation though.

I choose the NW Angle because it does have the best reputation for one of the best lakes/areas in the entire world; So I think you planned well. I also got a guide for our first 2 days there. Went with Joe Cooper. He comes highly recommended on here as well.

Sunset is nice, been there. great staff, good location, nice facility. they just reopened recently, and are undergoing a total renovation.

Stayed at Jakes several times. very nice resort, clean, and has air conditioning. if its hot you will appreciate!!! + cheapest gas prices

It is set back a ways so a small truck out every day might cost you about 20 minutes of fishing time daily.

baystore camp will most likely be booked solid in July. I tried for a couple years, BUT always filled. A great fishing camp though.

We have been going to Jakes for 20 + years and have Never had a problem .My positive points are that your on a mail road if you were to have car/truck / boat problems or trailer problems if need be you can haul out to Roseau Mn or Warroad. Jakes has gas at far below what you`ll pay on the water .I gas up every morning so I have a full tank .Jakes has dish network in case there's a day you can`t fish I find it interesting that some think a run out past American point is a big deal but will go through a tank of gas runnen and gunnen .Get a MN license One of my biggest fish was caught on the way out to the islands Mn side .Also tons of walleye come into the weeds right out of the creek in the evening Staff is first rate and will suggest areas to fish The owners .Karen and Paul have lived their whole lives there and not many know the lake as well as they do they will help in any way possible . There is docking with electric- a boat ramp quiet harbor etc My choice is Jakes I`ve stayed at others but always went back .My choice for big fish and lots of fish has always been LOW That's why Musky Hunter has a school every year as do several others .
