I was thinking about getting a Toro Winch for throwing big baits but didnt want to spend 250 bucks on one since I have a 60NaClHS i just bought. Has anyone tried a Shimano Tekota? I havent used a saltist either but they seem like they are heavy. Let me know your thoughts

A saltist is to a tranx like a Chrysler 300M is to a bentley. the poor mans version

Is the saltis heavy? Yeah a little. but the only other reel I would buy that is better then what the saltist can handle is a tranx and that is heavier. and if your not willing to spend 250, your really not willing to spend 500. get a saltist man, you wont be sorry

20 Salist, you will get used to the weight. 30 is big,40 is a beast.

I use a Saltist 20 for pounders and such, it works great but with 35" of pickup, It's not apples for apples with a Revo Winch. The Winch has only 22" of pickup per revolution and while it would be suited well for casting double 10's, double 12's or large crankbaits all day, might not have the quick pickup that most prefer for Dawgs and the like.

for the price Tekota is probably one of the toughest reel money can buy,ms have some model that will auto engage.i have never use them for casting because they are a bit slow for my taste, but hey it's a true towing

I found a revo winch 60 on the bay last year for under 200 bucks NIB with free shipping from a high rated 1st class seller. It took a little looking and checking everyday, but I found one and if your next to me and your boat breaks down. I can tow you in with it. Well worth it other than it's on the slower side of things with a 4:6:1 ratio. smooth, comfortable, hold a lot of line and well worth the money.

I like my saltist 20 but it requires a little extra attention while casting as it doesn't have spool brakes.
