working my way to getting back into the fishing groove...boat picked out and thought I had the motor picked (E-Tech), but my boat/motor knowledge is dated and with improvements to the 4 stroke market I thought I would ask.

Motor will be maxed, not interested in splitting hairs on top end speed, but what motor brand and technology (DFI or 4stroke) has shown the best fuel economy at cruising speed with all the recent tech updates since I've been in "the loop"?

Maybe fuel economy isn't significant between them ??

HO?
Verado?
ProXS?
F200?
etc etc.

thx much.

Gregster!!!!

Welcome back! What is the boat? Another bassrocket?

ProXS gets the best fuel mileage of the group. And the best overall performance. It is not the quietest of them. And it's a beautiful shade of BLACK!

Ever notice on any of the E-tec commercials that they DO NOT compare their motor to an opti-max? hmmmm, i wonder why that is. I'll take my opti over any other motor, unless it's a yammie SHO. I've been hearing some good things about them, however, I think mercs are still being made in USA.

I like Yamaha I have a F150 on a 18 foot boat top speed just over 50 I run it at 40 .if I do a lot of running ill burn around 6 to 8 gallons per day. I had a Yamaha on my last boat never had a problem so I went with them again.i know they all make good motors but if you have good luck why swich.

Fuel economy goes to optimax in most boat tests I have seen. Usually it is about .5mpg in most tests. Hull design has a major impact on economy as well. SHO motors are developing a reputation for "making oil" not sure how many but seems to be a conversation piece.

SHEPSTER!!, nope not another bass rocket, althought a bass boat is hands down "the" best musky fishing boat....even on big water........anyways, have twin 4 year old boys to think about now and a Stratos 385XF with a full winshield will be my next ride for 20 years!!!, ....esp considering the huge increase in boat/motor prices since I have been in the boat running "loop".

Handling all weather extremes, boredom/protection on the water and (hate to say it) "other" kinds of fishies

Already emailing Grant and Morley, Sab Bay Island 2014, back in the saddle.............

I might need your walleye spots on Sabaskong!

keep in touch

I also will put my opti against any other motor. I run a 200 opti on my Tuffy x-190 and love it. Super efficient at 3500-4000 rpm's and that's about 38-40 mph cruising speed. I will agree they are not quiet but you cant beat that 2 stroke mercury growl! haha
