Location: Bloomington, IL | So this is weird. I was out putzin around on the water today, and I just decided to look at the weight/HP tag in the hull. I have a 1775 pro v, and so says the title that matches the hull number. But the tag says 1890! Now I measured it just to make sure I didn't luck into an 1890, and the dimensions definitely match a 1775.
Now normally I wouldn't care...I know what it is...but what slightly concerns me is if something should happen to it, and they (insurance, or whoever) look at that tag and it doesn't match and then that causes grief.
Has anybody experienced this sort of deal before? Do I need to pursue getting it corrected, or just say 'meh' and move on?

| My crestliner sportfish 2050 Had the incorrect tag. I have an I/O and the tag was for an outboard model. I didn't do anything because the boat was over 20' (coast guard doesn't have a HP and capacity restriction on vessels over 20'). It would take a very on the ball officer to pick up the slight OB vs IO on the plate
My old 14 foot aluminum capacity plate was faded to the point it was barely readable. So I filled out some paper work I printed online from my state, sent in a check for $7 and I got a new capacity plate, what was cool was I had higher limits for HP and persons (this was because the coast guard formula was not as conservitive as my boats mfg)
So I drilled ou the rivits on my faded plate to put on my new plate, wouldn't you know it, the back side had another models numbers printed on it, completely different than my model.
So basing this advise sololy on that experience, drill out the rivits and flip it over and look, it may be printed on two sides (like mine was). if that's the case it might be correct for you, so rivet it back on, or if it isn't rivet it back on and get a new one made from your home state. Its really easy

Location: Angle Inlet | My Triton did not have a tag. Someone forgot to put it in. Just got done getting it taken care of from the manufacturer. I now have a new tag at no cost. I would contact Lund and get the correct tag. They should replace it at no cost. It might take awhile but if it were my boat I would have the correct tag on it. The Coast guard is running around up here, maybe there not on your lake but the longer you wait for a new tag the harder it gets. Just got done with mine and I started in June. Good Luck. | |
