I have a 225 ho and I did a ton of research online about them and the consensus is that after bombardier took over the ficht direct injection technology the 03 and 04 ho's were fixed of the 02 and older ficht issues that gave the ficht the bad name

I would have a dealer do a compression test and leak down test they can also pull up the history on the motor including the hours and where and when it had been serviced

the main issue that these motors had was the lower unit mine had a replaced lower unit with a warranty so It was good to go

On my motor I upgraded to the etec plugs indexed them decarboned and went to the etec thermostats Im running the xd100 evinrude oil too... I think that most of that is also recommended on the 200's too

there is a bunch of info on bassboatcenteral .com in the evinrude/johnson motor tech section

I hope this helps you

I running the 05 version of that motor and no probs. you will want to watch the plugs to make sure they are gapped properly. Like previous post, the pre 02 fichts were problematic, but these are fine.

Xd 50 is fine. The xd 100 for Etechs can be set to use half as much oil, but not the fichts...IMHO and experience xd 50 is fine for this motor.
