I had seen on a forum (not sure if on M 1st, MH, etc.) that some one was making boat covers based on the newer ratchet approach that could be ordered custom to fit anyone's paricualr boat size. I recall someone stating they were starting to make these for individual order and that they would be reaonably priced. Anyone with details or know of this?

Thanks!

Yep. GREAT cover, especially for the money.

I purchased a ratchet-lok cover from Cabela's for my x-190 and I love it. had one for my 1700 also. If you keep an eye on the Cabela's flyers they have them on sale often.

Problem with the smartech and Cabela's - they don't breathe!
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 'Styled-to-Fit' Carver from boat covers direct. $350.00 for a 8 oz. Performance Poly-Guard. Less than half the price I got quoted for a custom cover.

Not accurate, the Smartech cover has built in vents, and 'breathes' nicely, I have one on my 19' boat. Made with 600 denier polyester fabric. Watch the video. Plus, the Smartech offers a warranty that's 2 years longer, a ratchet strap securing system, advanced buckles, and a support.

Ok, I'll be more specific - the fabric is not breathable.

'Polyguard' is polyester fabric as well. Basically the same stuff.

Is it worth spending the extra to get the fleece version - supposedly for protecting the finish of the boat. I have an aluminum boat (not glass) and the exterior paint is in great shape. Certainly don't want any "rash" from trailering it but not sure how much the fleece helps or just the polyester only versino would hurt if the cover is on properly.

Thanks,

For long term protection of the finish, I'd get the fleece.

I would like to know if the cover has room for the front trolling motor to be left in place?

Same stuff???

All Polyester Fabrics are not the same - some breathe, some don't.

To each his own though. The Caver's going to be 100 bucks more for me. I think it's worth it for the breathable fabric and the more custom fit.

The material is basically the same, and it's top shelf in either cover. Both 'breath' by your description, and the Smartech is also vented. The Smartech is also a 'semi custom' (look at the selection chart and watch the video) and features a ratchet strap system for a better fit when trailering. Buy what you want, but be accurate in the discussion of the process.

Does the cover get gunked up around the motor? I have always had covers that went over the motor. Like the price and they seem like nice covers.

Nope, no 'gunk'.
