Location: Almost Heaven | How many of you guys use a split ring on baits like the Baker, Boss Shad and older Tuff shads, where the wire tie is through the lip? What are your thoughts as far as changing any of the baits action and such by using one or not? CPR |

| I use split rings on just about all my baits. I don't notice any action being hampered or different from using them. I think it actually helps on some of my twitch baits and gliders. |

No, I believe a split ring allows a snap the luxury of movement in any angle and does not disrupt the action of my bait, which may cause more strikes and more fish in the boat. I draw that conclusion on my lack of a better reason. Lol |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I'm confused by your question. Whether its a snap or split ring there can't be much if any difference on action. If anything I would tend to think that splint rings would be better than a snap because its totally round, like I said if there is a difference.
I use all split rings and NO SNAPS. Snap are the weakest part - especially if its been used for any length of time.

Location: Almost Heaven | That's interesting that you do not use any kind of snap. So you tie the split ring to the end of your leader and use your split ring pliers and then put it on your line tie? I agree that the String eze snaps will fatigue if you don't change them out every so often. I had one break in my hand changing baits one day.
The reason I asked the question was this. Some guys just fasten the snap to the line tie and some use a split ring and snap. You just use a split ring. I was asking if anyone noticed any difference in the way the lure tracked by using the snaps or split rings. Sorry for the confusion. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I have solid rings on my multi-strand leaders and either solid ring or just a loop on my single strand leaders if the leaders diameter is big enough where the loop will not snake out of the split ring. Yes I use a split ring pliers (Leadmaster) to open the split rings to change baits. And I add a split ring to each bait I own and leave it there. If you start changing split rings from bait to bait the ring, it will get weak as well as it has to open too far for the eyes of the bait. |
