Location: Minnesota. | Folks, I had my charger go out in my 2012 Z118 on a recent two week trip to Vermilion last week. Called a local dealer where I bought the boat and they are looking into a rebuilt replacement as they think the warranty is for 3yrs.
My question...is a rebuilt/replacement as good as the orig. new one? She's just 1 yr old and used only a little.
I'm just a wee bit skeptical but don't know what my chances are in asking for a new one to be ordered/installed. The dealer is looking into this at present.
Thanks for your suggestions.

| My Minkota 2 bank charger just went out after 2 years. They sent me a new one in 7 days. All they asked is that i send them back my old one. Not sure if this answers your question but asking for a new one is not out of line. |

| Give Dual Pro a call. They were willing to give me a credit on a new one, and mine is at least 8 years old.
In my case, though, it just turned out that the connections loosened up after use of the boat since I had last installed new batteries.
Good luck!

Location: Minnesota. | Thanks guys I'm checking into it. The dealer wants to take a look at the boat next week when the techs are back and they'll help make a decision as to what the best way to get me back running is.
Appreciate this! |

| Dual pro has the worst warranty. I would stay away from them. I have had 3 bad experiences with them and would not buy there product again. Stay with the minn kota. Great products that last. |

Location: Lawrenceburg,IN | Dual pro was great to me . Called and told them of problem and they sent new unit out and I then used their packaging and sent old one back. Could not ask for better service. |

Location: WI | I have also had good success with dual pro customer service. Mine 3 bank 15 amp went out after warranty and the gave me credit on a refurbished one. It has a warranty on it as well. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | OK- everyone should understand a couple of things with power electronic's (chargers).
1. They will all eventually fail. So will your truck or boat motor or trolling motor.
2. Rebuilt is never as good as new, unless all of the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced - they have typical life of ~10 years. Less if the circuit design is marginal. However, the manufacturer should be willing to give you same warranty as new......
3. Stuff happens, things come loose. Lots of early charger failures or problems are likely user induced.
A. Do you use long extension cords?
B. Do you leave the charger plugged into the extension cord during lightning storms with boat outside, e.g. tied up to the dock, etc. ?
C. Have you cut or broken off the ground pin on your extension cord plug?
If you answered yes to A & B, go buy a ~$20 dollar surge suppressor and plug it into the extension cord and plug the charger into that, its cheap insurance against lightning damage.
If you answered yes to C, either go buy a new one or replace the plug on the one you've got. It might save your or someone else's life!
Have fun!
Al

Location: Minnesota. | Al,
Thanks very much re the surge protector suggestion. My other Dual Pro was over 15 yrs old and I never had trouble but it's a great insurance against storms etc.
Thank you!!
