| Have a big nasty that currently has a 400 TE on it. Trying to throw mag dawgs and double 10s with it, but just can not pick up the slack fast enough when throwing the mag dawgs. Would love to get a Tranx, but tooo expensive. Any suggestions for other reels to match up with this rod that will do what I want? Thanks!! |

| Try a new style statist.. the Black colored one.. I think it's up to 32" per crank... I use mine for rubber only. Mostly mags and pounders or 11" sues which I toss a lot. I've casted 2 lbers and mammoth sues with it no problem. ... ooh yea. I've also used for bucktails, double tens to 13s. Handles them fine.. Nice for the price |

| Sell your 400te for about $275 and buy a Tranx for $350 on the buy/sell. |

| You could go with a revo toro 60 with the 5.4:1 gear ratio which will cost you about what you can get for your TE (depending on its condition). They pick up the slack alot better than the Calcuttas. Only problem is that they don't hold up as well as the shimanos in the long run (selling a TE is almost a sin in my books). I still use the revos because my clients always ask for them but I have one that's 2 months old that I had to send in a couple days ago. Drag went out after 2 months of usage (which is probably about 2 years of usage to the average musky angler). Still under warranty so it only cost me some postage but a big pain in the hind end. For a versatile, comfortable reel to fish musky's with, though, it's hard to beat the 5.4:1 Revo's. They are a good speed for double ten's and are quick enough to pick up slack when ripping rubber or jerkbaits. |

| The Tranx HG is in a class all its own for line pickup. You wont be able to find another reel that will pick up the slack like a Tranx HG that will be in the ball park of even trade for your TE.
The combo you have right now with the LT Croix and the TE is not an elcheapo rig, it seems to me you like top shelf gear. My advise is save your pennies and you when got more than enough saved to cover the difference of the selling of your TE get the HG Tranx.
But other reels that pick up the slack more quickly that your TE would be Curado D,E,EJ Toro HS 50,60 Lexa 300. There are more out there but those are some of the faster non Tranx reels |

| I was able to come across an old BLACK Ambassadeur 7000CL Big Game reel. Does this reel compare to any of the mentioned above? Could I use this reel? How fast would the line pick up be? |

| Abu Revo Toro NACL HS in size 60/61 or 50/51 (your choice).
They retrieve almost 31'' (exactly 30,9'' ).
