Wife is heading to Wausau next week for work. Thought I'd tag along and fish for three days. All new water to me. Not looking for spots just some general directions.
Daughter goes to UWSP and I've driven by Lake Dubay, and the Wi River many times, just never had time to stop.

Thanks,
Nick

There are a few dams in the area with launches near them. Hit eddies and breaks.

Lake Wausau has a great fishery, Walleye, Pike, Bass and Muskie.
I fished it a lot 15 + years ago when I lived in the area.
It has a lot of options, current breaks in the rivers, large shallow weed beds, stumps/scattered wood and the drop into the main channels in the lake. All of them hold fish.
This time of the year I would fish the rivers for musky and troll the main lake channel edges for walleye or maybe cast the weeds for big pike and muskies.

I'm going to be in Wausau on August 3rd just for the day. My wife is taking pictures at a cattle show, so I figured I would tag along and go fishing while she is taking pictures. I've never fished Lake Wausau either, nor have I ever muskie fished a river. I have an 18' bass boat. Are there any hazards out there that I need to know about? I don't want to do any damage to the boat. I think Lake Wausau is my only option since the cattle show won't go from sun up til sun down. I'm looking for any help as well, or any other options that are now further than 45 minutes away.
Thanks

Yes, there are stump fields and possibly floating wood in the lake and rocks and wood in the rivers. So be careful.
Don't be afraid to fish there, just go slow and keep your eyes open, and get a map.

There is a map here; http://dnr.wi.gov/lakes/lakepages/LakeDetail.aspx?wbic=1437500

Look it over pick a section you want to fish and use a landing in that area, so you don't have far to travel.
I used to troll from spot to spot.
Again you do have to be careful, but no more so than other flowage.

No, I didn't end up getting up there. It ended up not being worth the drive up for how small the cattle show was that my wife was supposed to take pictures at. 7 to 8 hrs of driving for her to take pictures for an hr or two wasn't worth the gas money.
