I looked around with the search function but couldn't find the specifics to my question. What would be your reel preference between a Tranx HG and a 400D when throwing mag dawgs or larger plastics?

Appreciate the input.

Cheers,

Phil

I have both. The tranx is far superior for big rubber in every way besides comfort. It's a beast of a reel but palms relatively easily and doesn't stick far from the rod so the foregrip hold is more comfortable than other big reels. The 400d is the smoothest most comfortable reel I have ever used. Line retrieve is night and day between the two. The tranx picks up slack instantly and The D is relatively slow. If you prefer to slow roll rubber baits using the reel and moving the bait occasionally with the rod you might prefer the D. The tranx hg is terrible for bringing a bait in at a slow pace.
