Bait Effectiveness %!!!

Really really really bored last night....while sharpening, thought I'd try to see what % of my baits actually had action of one sort or another on them. (caught, hit or follows)
72 baits total
6 new this year (never seen water)
48 baits had seen "action" from Muskies...

48/66= 73%

How about you!!??

I have no clue!!!

I have no idea how many lures I own or use and I don't keep track of strikes or follows.

Also, I hate statistics. Back in college my semester project for a statistics course used my fishing log as a data set. My conclusion for that project was that statistics were totally useless for a fisherman. Needless to say, my grade was NOT an A for that class as the professor did not appreciate my humor.

Since then, I have only used my fishing log to help me remember specific events (caught fish)... rather than make conclusions about my effectiveness or try to predict future successes.

Cool idea though Slamr. But I can't answer your question.

Slamr,

Come over to my house.....sit down and sharpen all my baits and I will tell you if they had action or not....how is that![]

Actually, its funny how I will have a bait for two or three years and then its a miracle!!!!....the bait starts to ROCK!.

Its funny those sleeper baits just start working sometimes. What about baits that have caught fish the first day you started using them then have not caught a fish in years. Slamr...I would say 25% of my baits have caught fish...

MuskyJ,

Those baits that catch a fish on the FIRST time out.....die after that...a slow death....and three weeks later you finally take them off, after you have not caught another fish on it.

Sometimes its the blind squirral effect...you drop it on the head of a muskie and he eats it...Then you think you got the greatest bait in the world.

I'd say it's about the same as the water you fish. 90% of my fish are caught on 10% of the baits I own.

I think Gregger would be like .002% of his baits have caught fish, but that's because he owns every bait ever made, in every color![] And then he steals mine to catch fish![] [;)]

It would take me the rest of the winter to find that out. I have baits that I don't even know I have. I just got back 8 baits today that I had custom painted. Holy s^$%! you should see them. I will post a pic if I could ever figure it out.

My guess would be about 60% of the baits I carry. They are already sharp, Slamr, but you can come up and fish with them, Jason too.

I USE regularly about 6 baits. They rate a 100%.

Good post Slamr. Now you got me thinking. I think if I take out all the baits that I have in the boat that aren't getting action, I could go from six Lakewood musky boxes down to one!

I have better luck catching fish after going over to Jason Smith's house and taking baits that he doesn't use anymore.

Nothing worse than lending a bait you never catch fish on to someone and they take it out and catch BIG fish..........LOL!

I have way to many baits ( 5 boxes ) to even try and figure it out but just off hand I thinks it may be under half but then again a lot of the baits I carry are spares for when the good ones fall apart from catching to many fish. I think I have enought to fill another box or two in the basement just waiting to be taken to the big leagues. [:sun:]

I have an idea but Steve could you by chance list those six baits you use regularly? Lets guess...undertaker, reef hawg, creature, dogturd, violent strike spinnerbait, and suick????

Almost 100% of the ones I use on a trip. Like Boro said, I take the tackle shop and only use 3 or 4 lures. Usually you know the time of year, the water your fishing, and the weather conditions, and you stick with just a few that get tied on. To answer, Slamrs question, is also about 100%. When I buy a lure, it stays on, until a muskie eats it. The only exception is that %$&*#$ Burmic2. My arm gets sore just thinking about that lure.[;)]
