I got invited to a friend's cabin near Minong, WI at the end of July. Apparently, it is not far from Nancy and I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Anyone have any experience on this lake that they would like to share? Or perhaps a different lake in the neighborhood? Any info is appreciated, thanks.

I fished Nancy this year end of June/early July. Some of the most gorgeous cabbage beds I have ever seen. Every cast I was picturing a fish exploding out of the cabbage and smashing my bait, however that didn't happen. That being said, we saw a 30", and two smaller muskies around 18". The hammer handle pike are prolific and annoying. The launch we put in at was pretty poor and in the middle of a choked out portion of the lake between the two basins. I have heard that Nancy was one of the only lakes in WI to get Leech Lake strain fish stocked in it back in the day, but it appears that tribal rights may have been regularly exercised since their introduction. Bring spinnerbaits and small bucktails that slide through weeds, it will save you a huge headache. Topwaters in most areas will work well too, but don't ignore the steep breaks this lake offers. Good luck!

It used to be called Sledgehammer Lake but when trolling was legalized they changed it to Nancy.

Good one.

I work in Minong and Live in Hayward but I've never fished it. Sounds like it would have been awesome 10 years or so ago but not a lot of opportunities now, unless everyone is really tight lipped about it.

Nancy has a few leech lake fish left from when they stocked it back in the 80's when the Wisconsin DNR did their little "failed" research project with stocking that strain of fish in Wisconsin waters. A number of guys have boated 50 plus inch (leech lake) fish on Nancy and put them on their walls. One being a 55 inch tank caught a couple summers ago by a part-time guide in the area.

I've tried it twice. Lots of small pike and bass! Had a boil behind a topwater near the boat, didn't see the fish so no idea if it was a nice one or not. Fished another lake nearby but haven't had much action there.
