Hello everyone, has anyone purchased and used one of these for double 10's? I am looking for a high speed reel that does not feel like I am dragging in a truck. Currently using a Penn975. Cranks easily but does not have the ability to burn in. Tried me Abu 7000 but it cranks really hard when trying to burn the 10's. Thanks, Steve

I have one of the old ones. and though there is some strategic overrun issues. It burns the blades really well. I love mine! Great reel for the money

Is there a significant difference in the older ones and the new black ones as far as casting? Never mind, did a search.

I have one of the older ones and its a great reel for 10s or big rubber. I put ceramic bearings in mine which seem to help it quite a bit. the newer one are supposed to be a little more user friendly with auto engage on the spool when you start reeling and a spool brake.

the downsides are the lever and auto-engage is somewhere in the first rotation and not immediate. you will quickly get used to both and when comparing the cost vs. alternatives with the same performance it will come with a smile.

Thanks for all the input everyone. BNelson recommended the reel but I wanted a few other opinions. I really have to start listening more to him. Any rate, I ordered it yesterday and will be able to field test it before hitting LOTW starting July 13th.

I been using mine since last fall, honestly haven't even used it for blades, I'm sure they do a good job ...love mine for rubber!... and thus far has held up great to rip mags and pounders...... as already mentioned good reel -good value.

I have 4 ... 20, 30, and 40... great value .. mine always break whether its in 1 month or did have one last 2 years ... just mail them into Daiwa and they fix em .. the 40 holds up the best but is huge/heavy.

Is the 30 a bear to cast?

Not at all, I assume the 40 would be, but the 30 is fine.

Most probably know this but some reading may not - this model was new last year... the model asked about here is black in color (old ones were silverish) and being able to auto-engage the reel is nice, as Sled mentioned sometimes you need to go almost a full rotation of the reel handle.. the drag is also better in this new model.
