Location: Bloomington, MN | Years ago someone made a comment about an individuals excessive amount of entries into the big fish contest as being caught out of a private lake. Are there really lakes that are off limts to the public? I know there is/was Shawnee Lake in PA. that coughed up some huge fish for an individual, but that was years ago. |

| All surface waters in Wisconsin are public property. You may not however trespass across private property to access any body of water. Therefore if a body of water is completely surrounded by private property and does not have navigable water access you can sort of consider it to be private even though by the letter of the law the water itself is still public property. The WDNR only manages / stocks waters with public access points. |

Location: Hayward, WI | There are a couple of "private" lakes around here that have huge panfish in them. In the winter there are a couple of area anglers that fly in to them and land on the ice. Wardens have been called and some heated arguments but the fishermen where within their rights. Then next year the landowner took his UTV with a plow on it and plowed snowbanks across where the plane would land so they could not land.

| I know of several lakes in Minnesota that do not have a "public" access on them. I know one resort that is the only access on the lake. It does have some muskies in it, but it is not stocked. So the only way you can get on that lake is by staying at the resort, unless you are a Boy Scout, and go from the Boy Scout camp.

Location: Minocqua, WI | There's a good number of these so-called private waters. But some of them have resorts on them. And when there's a resort they may charge you an arm and a leg in order to access their gem via boat rental or their private launch. Wouldn't hurt to make phone calls to work out an access deal.

No, they're stocking prisoners so the muskies can eat them.
My grandpa used to own a section on County G in Vilas Co WI with a couple of lakes on it. Sold it a long time ago, now a few of them are private.

| As someone pointed out, Columbus (north of Sugar Camp) has no public access. There's a former resort but they now chain their landing (it's condo assoc. now).
There are a couple muskies in there, but not a huge population from my experience. (however i have not fished muskies on it, just panfish and walleye)
There are a number of smaller lakes in northern WI with no public access as well. Not sure of any with a healthy musky population however. |

Location: MN | I know of a couple little lakes in mn that are private. You can get in them via a creek but it ain't easy and you sure aren't getting a ranger in or any decent sized boat unless you live on it. I will fishing one at some point this summer. Most likely lower numbers but they're fish that've probably never seen a musky bait, lots of forage=recipe for chonga. I'm sure there are more in wi than you'd think. Muskies migrate... |
