Season is off to a....start. Walleye anglers landed many muskies in deeper water before the season opened..most of which would likely not have been caught by those of us casting shallow structure. Weeds are slow to come up with late spring and fast rising waters from ice out til the last week. Water levels came up a couple feet and got way ahead of weed growth. There is some vegetation being found in some of the usual places with weeds, but most is well behind.

Water temps 66ish at the dock this AM with bright sunshine coming the next couple days. Shallow bays may get over 70.

Fish have been found on points near spawning areas and some other rock shoreline type structure. So far, have heard of 44, 46, 48 and 50 inchers caught and landed from Saturday through Monday. Small cranks, spinner baits have been the ticket so far. Fish have been active and nipping at boat side.

As always, practice, practice, practice your boatside technique and try to get the habit of setting the hook back into the fish whenever possible.

Personally, I have not gotten out yet, but hope to make Sunday afternoons and Thursday afternoons fishing days this summer. Pooh boat has been taken for a ride and loaded with release tools. Need to assemble some rod/reel combos, tie on some leaders, sharpen a few barbless baits and get the GoPro camera batteries charged up before I'm ready to hit the water.

Good luck on the water where ever you may be able to get out fishing. Let us know how you are doing and what you are seeing in Sabaskong and area.

Some good action last night on rocks and point with rock, no weeds. Small bucktails were the ticket. Little Mepps. Water temps 68ish.

Weeds are coming up but it is still slow and behind normal timelines.

Talked to a regular at the dock yesterday and he said it was the best opening week fishing they have ever had. 47, 48 and the previously mentioned 50 incher. Action was strong Friday morning under overcast skies and died right off when the clouds broke and sun came out. All the large fish have been hitting the big sledge...also some good action a small twitch boat for their boat.

Water temps seen as high as 74 degrees...68 at the dock on Friday morning. Forecast is for a little less than stable weather the next few days so fishing could be up and down. Hit the primetimes as much as possible to make the best use of your time when conditions are off.

Solunar Data is posted to our twitter feed daily for those of you that would like to follow sun/moon/majors/minors for our area.

Good luck on the water. I still have NOT gotten out yet. Maybe I can try to get a couple reels put on rods this week and tie on some leaders!

I don't have a lot of info this week as we have mostly walleye anglers and haven't had too many boats with heavy artillery coming to the dock. Been a few fish seen and caught, but nothing wild to report.

Water temps were 70ish and as high as 80 in places later in the day on Tuesday when we had scorching sunshine all day long.

Please keep in mind the safest handling techniques and tips that were circulated last year. I may post them in the general forum again to keep them fresh in our minds.

I still have NOT gotten on the water myself.

Not many precincts reporting in, but managed to get on the water myself with a buddy and dished from 3-10pm June 30. Found a slow start with some action later in the day. Ended up with 2 small fish caught (34.5", 36"), 1 strike that didn't turn into a hook-up and 9 follows. As best we could tell it was at least 7 different fish. Nothing big with low 40s being the largest. 3-4 small pike also in the mix.

Tried some sand with good weeds and rock points, shoreline.

All muskies came from rock structure. Nothing seen on anything else. One of the muskies came from rock in front of reeds, but all other rocks were points or main lake. Muskies only came after a chart coachdog sledge and a double 8 bucktail with colourful skirt and hammered gold blades. Caught fish were on of each on those baits.

I got the 36 to hit at boatside after taking it around the corner over the motor and a full turn on the other side of the boat. That led to a walk around the gunnel on both sides and a crash into the minn kota before netting it in the same place it hit the bait after a 360 degree walk in the park.

And people wonder why we love muskie fishing? When is the last time a walleye or bass did that???

The coolest part was getting it all on the GroPro because it was a spot we went back to that had produced a couple follows earlier in the outing so I had the camera running. Can't wait to get that edited for youtube as it turned out pretty sweet!

Water temps were anywhere from 70-71 to 76/77.

Overall was pleased with the action during my first time on the water in 2013. With the action reported to be slow leading up to the trip and the sunny skies and warm temps all day, I wasn't expecting all that much.

Just great to be back on the water in the pooh boat!

Get out there and tell us what is going on in July!
