For those of you that have not signed up for the Cave Run outing...see the outings page for more details. Its a great way to go musky fishing in late March and get away from the drilling.[]

| I must confess I don't see how you peeps can handle the weather!!![:(] On the high rise knoll we call home, the cold wind buffets the pineapple; temps. are colder than usual and it has been DAGGONE windy now since back in early November. Looks to hit 42 today, then dropping back down in the low 30s/mid 30s the rest of the week, and in the low 20s/teens at night. The usual temps are upper 40s/low 50s and 30s at night. I talked to Muskie E yesterday afternoon, and the temp was in single digits...I almost set meself on fire to warm up when he told me! Me hat is off to all you frozen folks "up there!'
The Cave Run Fling will not only be a time for thawing out , it will also introduce many of you to an exotic dining experience, where you can sample grits, various hot sauces, corn flakes glistening in butter milk, and rich southern desserts...Pay Days dipped in Sweet N Low... baked Milky Ways warmed on a truck dashboard...sip the finest "southern wines" from the comfort of a folding lounge chair as the sun sets; Coke Colas, Frescas, Orange Crush, R.Cs and Double colas are a few samples that you will enjoy. For those who choose to eat on the run, nothing beats a brown paper sack loaded down w/ Velveeta Cheese on Sun Beam bread...Little Debbie snack cakes...some jerky and a few Fire Ball candies to keep you happy. Coke Colas and Pay Days are a staple on every rig, and bottled water is suggested as an antidote for this volitile mixture....as a special treat, RAZE1 will play Smokey Bear and offer tours throughout the weekend; see his brochure on the sign up post...now get out there, tell your wife that you are NOW IN CHARGE, and take the PLUNGE! | Sadly I could be doing that drillin scene right across the road on the nearbye ponds. We are also looking out at 4-6 inches of that dang white stuff right now and only one day this week with a high above 33 degrees for a forecast. Last year I picked 5 in January, on 5 boat trips. This year so far only one trip and viewed 1 blimp. This is probably payback for all that laughin I have done over the years every since I moved to the KY part of WI. Normally I do most of my fishing from late September through early June. This year has absolutely sucked since early November due to water quality problems and temperature.
I should probably apologize to you guys for the many teasing posts I have put up here over the last couple years about WI and Northern winters. I should probably be humbled by my past good fortune to fish 10 months out of the year and then go north to fish some more during the other two. It has probably been wrong of me to make fun of you all up their in your snow suits, boots and long johns.
But what the heck, this will probably still melt off in a week and a warm spell will come and I will be fishing musky and you guys won't.[]
No point overreacting to a little adversity. I am looking forward to testing some more prototype baits this winter and spring. Hopefully I will have the next big idea tied on the end of my line before you guys get down here. Keep on drillin boys!! []

| What date does Cave run open up for Muskies? | |
| | |
| The weekend of the Muskie First Outing![;)] Actually it is open year 'round, but you'll have more fun that weekend![:sun:] | |

| Our lakes and streams are froze over or freezing here in SE Ohio, my guess is Cave Run's bays are frozen and possibly parts of the main lake. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd go on the Corps' CAve Run web page to check.
Ice here is covered with snow. I saw on In-Fisherman (ok, well, the football games hadn't started, yet) where light penetration retards thru the ice & snow, browning green weed beds. What effect do you think this will have on Spring Muskies?

| Mikie, depends on how long the snow and ice is there. If its a late ice off, the new weed growth is slowed up and may not reach its potental, before the blooming of the water in late June. Once the water blooms where I live, the weeds have it their potental for the year. | |

| Thanx, Jason. Here's the Corps' website, but condition reports won't start until May. Think they'd respond to an e-mail? http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/crl/lakeinfo.htm
Thanks for all your kindness towards the Qualls family. I am touched by your gesture. I'll be fishing hard for a chance at the Qualls Big Fish award. m
