Location: Greenfield, WI | I was fishing Pewaukee Lake yesterday. There were big "globs" of green masses which ranged from about 3' in diameter to some that were as big as a truck. Some were attached to weeds, some were just floating.
The north shore of the west basin was nearly un-fishable out to about the 16' depth.
I didn't see any fish in the areas affected by the green masses.
I hope that this will be short lived.
Has anyone else seen this occur in any other lakes? |

Location: SE Wisconsin | We have those globs of gook floating on Lower Phantom this time of year. They last a couple of weeks and seem to disappear, but last years total heat kept them around longer than usual. Hopefully their gone soon. |

| It's the norm on Monona and Waubesa this time of year...usually gets better once the lakes turn green. |

| Pewaukee is just gross right now. There is a carpet of weeds that covers what, half of the east end? Maybe more? Then you have that nasty green slime on the west end. I'm amazed that muskies, let alone any fish outside of bluegills can live in the lake this year.
Something needs to be done about the weeds in the east end. I was told that the cutters cut those weeds twice a week and they still grow up to the surface and this is before the water even gets warm. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The cutters are only cutting navigation channel's through the milfoil. The thought of cutting those weed beds down is crazy. It would grow back by the time they finished cutting it. This year you will see markers on the east end for people to travel. We need everyone to use the cut paths as much as possible. My brother is working with Pewaukee decision makers to get the channels marked and enforced.
That way the cutters can work on shorelines and channel's to keep travel easy on boaters.
As for the green slime......well it looks worse than it is. I caught two muskies in it Monday night. Think of it as cloud cover to the fish. Lol.
Not much we can do about it except pray for a strong wind all day to push it to one side of the lake.
Weeds are just nuts this year. So are all the dead pan fish. Those died due to spawning stress. At least that's what our fisheries biologist said in a e-mail.
Don't sweat the weeds people. The fish live in and around them. Best bet is to fish the edges and be happy your on the water. The lake used to be on a cycle with almost predictable weed patterns. Well not anymore with outside variables introduced. Zebra muzzled, new weeds, clearer water, mild winters, etc. Every year is a new puzzle. Look at it that way. Figure it out and sucess is the reward. |

Location: oswego, il | The higher water and rainfall makes it worse as well. Fertilizer and farm runoff puts alot of stuff in the lake. See the same thing in indiana, when you can smell cow crap and you have alot of rain, guess where it goes? |

Location: Sycamore, IL | FYI- Delavan had those green slime balls a few weeks back, but they were mostly gone when I was up there last week. |
