| I am in the market for a good bull dawg rod. I recently bought a big nasty, love it for blades. I wish it were a little more stiff for throwing magnums and pounders. Ive been using it for dawgs and blades with a nacl 5.4. Ideally I want a rid to throw dawgs with a 6.4 nacl. I don't care who makes it, I want the best dawg rod. Can I get it from loomis? I was looking at their heaviest rod. Or do I just get a big dawg? I've also been thinking daiwa saltist. |

| I got a LT Big Dawg, and a TI xxh, both do the job fine, but i prefer the action of the Big Dawg. |

| I have had a few of the mentioned rods and so far (regardless of price I paid) I prefer my Tackle Industries rods by far for big rubber. I have a 9' XXH and a 7'6" XXH and they both work and feel great for big rubber. Good rods for the money by far. You will get a lot more than what you pay for with these.

| I too got a chuckle ..Tackle Industries xxh 9' is a great pounder rod!.....I own two XXH's and have thrown pounders a lot. (90 degree heat, sub freezing conditions, big fish..no issues) - I've basically sold all my St, Croix's (I kept 1 7'6 Avid for a glide bait rod) - My six 9' TI's see all the action - Great rods! I broke one MH last year and the service James provides is above and beyond. Highly recommend giving TI rods a shot. |

| I did own one or I wouldn't be saying that they are not good pounder rods. I throw rubber a ton! I ordered one tried it once and it sits I'm my garage doing nothing. The thing feels like it is going to break when casting pounders. It's way to soft tip for throwing big rubber. I own a xh for my buck tail rod which I love but there xxh does not work well for big baits. |

| A question for the OP: Are you looking for a very technique specific rod or a more general one? Also, how much do you want ot throw Poudners?
Mag Dawgs load much differently than Pounders. They weight about 5-6oz less. So a rod that casts those very well is probably going to be on the light side for a Pounder. The converse is also true. I think a key things guys need to experience is a what a rod feels like that loads and casts these baits properly. If your rod is like a broomstick, you are providng a much larger % of the work needed to cast the lure. Similary, if the rod is like a noodle, you have to baby it and lob the bait. You'll feel like you are going to break your rod every cast.
IMO, Pounders are such a heavy lure that having a rod that loads properly when casting is a big deal. Quite simply, the rod should be doing most of the work, not your back and shoulders. Of couse, this also means that such a rod will be terrible for things like DCG because it will feel like a "broomstick" with such a light bait.
If you want an excellent rod for Pounders that is cheap, try the Okuma EVX XH. I have one and it loads them up beautifully. The XH Predator is probably the cadillac option for this bait. The XXH Pred is too stiff IMO. |

| Monster Mags are rated 8-40oz XXH and come in 7'6", 8', 8'6" and 9' most guys buy the 8'6" or 9' its easier to cast pounders with longer rod
the Super magnum XH is rated 3-16oz
If you throw pounders a lot the Monster is the way to go, If you only throw them every once in a while the XH is ok.

| I agree with Brad P. I also used an Okuma EVX XH for pounders and still do sometimes. It works great. i upgraded to a Thorne Bro's XH predator this year and it was definitely worth the money. Its a rod i will have forever and can throw baits from a dbl 8 to a pounder with ease. |
