I just bought a Humminbird 597ci with down imaging and have to mount the transducer to my Ranger 621VS. The transom of the boat curves from top to bottom and from port to starboard. Where do I find a flat spot for the transducer??? The only flat spot is right next to the motor and I'm worried about turbulence. It would be about 15" from the propeller, i"m wondering if that will be OK. Don't want to end up with a bunch of holes in the boat.

I have a 620 and mounted mine under the step to the right of the drain plug. No issues in a year as far as turbulence goes.

Keep in mind the SI only works effectively up to 8 MPH I believe (somebody will correct me Im sure if Im wrong LOL) at any rate its no good at high speeds.

Also with mounting it there at so it is above the bottom of the transom it is protected from damage to some extent.

Could you thru-hull mount that unit? thus eliminating any drilling at all. I have one thru-hull and it works flawlessy, however, it is not a DSI.

The SI ducer wont work thru hull. I actually run 2 ducers and a Y cable. One thru hull for high speed, and the SI ducer for low and side imaging capabilities.

Thanks for the input. I think the part about not working above 8mph is correct as I mounted it on the flat spot by the motor and it still kicks out about 20mph. Guess i will just have to live with it.

Musky Pete,

You can buy another transduce, a thru hull for example and run a y cable for both transduscers. The unit will automatically pick the one depending on speed. works pretty slick!
