I'll be driving up through Madison next Friday and was wondering what good baitshops there are to visit. I have hear some folks on here mention a hardware store? thanks for any info.

Dorn Hardware on Midvale Blvd.  There is also a Dorn Hardware on Sherman Ave. that is closing soon.  Not sure if they have closed their doors yet.  Also, D & S on Northport Dr.  There is also a huge Gander Mtn. just off the Interstate between Madison and Deforest on Hwy. 51.

I just checked with Dorn Hardware on Sherman Ave.  They are still open.

Just so you know, if you can make it there, they have a 25% off sale for everything in the store...hardware, sporting goods, etc.  At this time, they are not sure when their doors will close.

Was the Sherman store that had the B.S Willy globes?

They still had some a month ago don't know about now everything has been 25% off for a month so most good stuff is long gone.
If you want the best selection of Tackle- Dorn's on Midvale is the best in this area by a mile. And its right off the Beltline HWY. Madison Gander Musky selection is light and over priced.
There is 2 entrances one is the upper lever for hardware the other is lower level for Fishing department for Midvale Dorn's

Dorns midvale has by far the best selection, however as far as price go they are on the high side. Dont know which way your heading but if you end up through Sauk City the Wilderness fish and game just expanded there musky section. Its not Dorns but better pricing

Dorn Hardware on Sherman Ave. is now at 30% off fishing gear.  Some hunting gear is 50% off.

I would go to Dorn's. Wilderness never has baits in stock- stopped 3 times for a crankbait that was sold out over 3 months ended up running down to Dorns to buy anyway
