Will this work?

I got a 8 foot heavy mojo musky with a toro winch on her. Can I throw regular dogs on this for a few weeks until I can afford a better dawg setup?

Should be OK...just don't try throwing mags or pounders or anything like that.

In fact as long as you're using 65# braid or better, you probably don't need a new rod. The reel is certainly up to the task.

Then again we ALWAYS NEED new stuff.

That's fine for mag dawgs too. You just have to lob cast them.

The reel has a pretty slow retrieve for rubber. You'll just have to reel a little faster when retrieving.

Yeah as mentioned it will throw dawgs all day long and handle mags as well. Instead of a new rod buy a set of faster gears to put in the winch . I like the 6.4:1 high speed gears to pick up the slack between pulls. Could use the 5.4:1 gears also.
