Where do you see plastics going for musky fishing? Will they be the thing to throw?

E,
Most of my would-be otherwise fishless days have been saved by soft plastics. I think the natural tail driven, fluid movements are fish magnets. The downside is that rubber and teeth don't go together very well. Sometimes I can get 6 fish out of one and sometimes it's a one fish bait. In the waters I fish the abstinance of pike gives me an incentive to throw them. Considering the time invested: travel, gas, food, maintenance and other expenses in pursuit of these fish, a $12.00 one fish bait doesn't seem all that bad to me. But I know that guides have a different perspective on the matter..............................RAZE

I have used soft plastics from the actual very first application. The technique goes in and out of favor, probably because of a lack of understanding by most of the application and what it can do for the angler as part of the over all arsenal.

The Creature fishermen out there that have continued to use them through the years know what the technique can do. The newer models like the Bulldawg styles are not really al that different than the original creatures, just a new application to the idea (like gliders have evolved. The difference between an Undertaker and a Slammer Drop Belly is obvious, but they are both gliders).

Plastics are here to stay bigtime. The well known Dawgs are the top selling Musky bait.Other lesser known but extremely productive ones like the Castaic,Optimum, and the Basstrix are getting more and more time on my line.

Steve hit it on the head though.Theres a time and place for plastics of all kinds including ceatures, but the right applications are still being learned by the Musky public.

I think they will be here to stay obviously. I don't think they have reached their peak yet as far as popularity has concerened, I think that is coming. I think it will come when one of the really big manufacturers come out with an all rubber bait and it get's pimped on TV and in print.

I seen a pool demo on the delong eels today. Not sure why they did not have it at the musky show, had they did, they would have sold out.

E,

Plastics have been around for some time. I think baits like the Bulldawg are really adding another dimension to musky fishing. I am not a jig fisherman by any means (my own loss, I know). I wish I had the patience but I don't. I have been able to get myself to slow down some in the last couple of years to where baits like Squirkos and Bulldawgs are my go to baits at times. Some days, especially cold fronts and Fall fishing, these baits produce when others don't even get a sniff.

As more and more fisherman use these baits, more and more innovative ideas will come forward.

Take a couple of die hard musky hunters, lock them up in a garage with a couple of cases of beer and a couple of pizzas, a hack saw, lots of glue and baits to tinker with and they will come out with the next Shamoo Sniper!
