Waldo Mart here has 2 Abu Garcia reels, 7000 models...they have the red(maroon)side plates, and are $99.00...does this model have the brake system, and are they worth the $$$? I don't recall seeing these side plate colors in a 7000, and need advice as to whether to hi-tail it down there and take the plunge! Thanks....[::)]

Thanks dude! I figured if the price was right, I'd pick it up, having never had one. Looks like it would make a good trolling reel also....

Sponge;
In looking at the Abu site at Muskie Kids ,there was
nothing similar to your reel.Have you looked at Hatteras
Jacks or one of the salt /distance casting sites.They
seem to have more series of reels than normally seen.
It would seem to be a discontinued model that would pro-
bably only last 20 years with good care.

Thanks Larry/Dennis...I got some Diawa line counters, mainly wanted to find out more about that red plated mystery behind glass doors; was also taking the level wind off and taking her surfing...I'll check Hatteras Outfitters too! [::)]

I found a pic of that reel. It seems odd that Monopolymart would carry that reel. But then again, someday they will be selling spouses there.

Thanks dudes...I think that is the one...had I any sense at all, I would have approached a clerk, aksed to see the reel, therefore having a model # etc to better explain meself...I'll see what I can find...if it has the braking system, I may get it...bet it may be a model that anon described...I feel like Sherlock Watson![:sun:]

Sponge...
The 7000 is the basic model without bearings as anon wrote. I haven't tried it but a mate of mine haven't been to pleased with his 5000 models. On the other side it is a very popular wheel for sea-fishing here in denmark.

I'm not sure what you mean by brake system, but is has all the features that the smaller models have. It has "casting brakes" so you can cast lures with it.

If you a willing to offer a little more, I would recommend 7000C3 or even better 7000 C4 Lever Drag. They are sold at Boatersworld for $120 and $130.
