I think someone was talking about doing something similar to this a while back. All you need to do now is add a 4G module and you can have internet access on the boat as well.


edit: "GoFreeā„¢ Wireless Technology will not function when a Gen1 display is on the network." dang.

Hmmm...So, got me thinking....could a person buy a $500 HDS-5 Gen2 and a $250 10" screen cheapo tablet and $100 waterproof Otter Box for the tablet and essentially have the functionallity of a $2500 HDS 10 Touch via the tablet?

And a $230 wireless module... You need a HDS touch unit to be able to control the HDS with the tablet. If you have Gen2 non touch you can only use tablet as a viewer.

Man, Lowrance is really innovating in their product line. I actually had an interview with them a couple months back, for a developer position. They have really got it together indeed. Incredible products and it was great to hear a bit of the inside story.
