Braid and a Leader

I live in Florida and come up to Wisconsin each summer.
I have only Muskie fished once with a guide and we didn't do any good.
I have a few nephews that Muskie fish and they will be taking me
this summer.
My question is this.
I will be using a baitcaster with 65lb braid, and probably using top water lures.
If I am using 65lb braid, do I need a leader. I have read a lot about using fluorocarbon leaders, with a double uni knot for braid to fluoro.
We have some good sized fish here in Florida, Snook, Cobia, Redfish
and I have always used a mono or fluoro leader with no issue.
Any thoughts.
I will be in the Spooner, WI area.
Any suggestions for lakes, lures.

Thanks,

Yes, you always need a leader for musky.
130lb mono is what i use, have caught several large pike and musky without a single failure (never even a damaged enough leader to replace).
Use a swivel, it's a safer connection and reduces line twist.

tying a double uni will work on braid to flouro up to 80lb test thicker gets hard to tie the knot
in my opion 80lb is a little light and may get bit off, it may not fail either

I always use at least a 130lb flourocarbon leader, won't let you down.

You could just pre-order some #130-#180 Stealth Fluoro Leaders. I know it might seem like overkill for you being down in Florida but Snook, Tarpon and Reds don't have teeth like a Muskie. The teeth are just too sharp and I've personally seen them bite right through 130# Fluoro. Sometimes they'll inhale a 10"+ lure up to the leader with ease. You could also just use wire on everything too.... Or like you said tie leader directly to the line but like mention above you'll want a swivel to prevent line twists. Buy some Stealth ahead of time and you'll hav them crimped and tied for added safety plus with a stay lock snap you can switch baits easily and fish faster. Good luck!!

What do you guys use for smaller bucktails like Rizzo's, Showgirls, Mepps spinners, etc?

always need a leader IMO. I would also use no less than 80# line and a 130lb mono Stealth leader.

Ok, you guys talked me into it. I ordered a 2 pack of the 130# fluoro leaders, with the snap locks.
Thanks for all the input. Now hopefully my nephew can put me on a Muskie or 2.
Now I have to figure out what lures to buy. I bought one last year, Savage Gear, but no luck,
but the guide didn't get a bite either, and from what I read on the fishing reports, no one had any
luck that day.
