| Hello again everyone,
a few says ago I posted a thread about muskie fishing, I've gotten a lot of information about muskies and about what lures to get. Because I'm just starting to get serious about muskie fishing and I'm on a budget I was wondering what the top lures I should buy, I can only afford 1 at a time so any help is appreciated. Bulldawgs, suicks, and spinners and top raiders have all been suggested but if I could only buy a few what type and color should I get?

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | I know this one wasn't one your list. but when I first started out. Someone told me to throw an all black double cowgirl with nickle blades by Musky Mayhem until I caught a fish. It took 3 months but the point is it happened. But that lure, is the one lure I would get. and muskies just love them. |

Hey send me your address. I have a regular dawg, double 8, and double 10 I never really throw. Along with Sworrals suicks this will easily get you by. If you post your location you can maybe even get one of these guys to take you along. |

Location: NorthCentral WI | Seriously, do NOT buy a Double Cowgirl as one of your first few lures.
Buy two smaller bucktails for the price of one Double Cowgirl and you will catch fish. I'd buy a 700 series Buchertail and a Mepps Marabou or something similar to those. Smaller bucktails catch just as many fish and will be easy to throw all day long. You won't be aching after two hours and your equipment will more than likely be able to handle them much better. |

| Crankbaits and bucktails will be your biggest producers. A nice, easy to use crank that I like--which isn't expensive--is the Believer, made by Drifter Tackle. You can buy these at 6", 7", 8", and larger. I would not bo bigger than 8 if I were you. You might try the 6" Depthraider as well. Grandmas of 7.5" are good for shallow water; and not too expensive. Ditto on 6" and 8" Jakes. On colors, I would use a natural finnish on clear water lakes; a little bit louder, like fretiger, works well in dark water. On bucktails, silver blade and black skirt produces more skis than any other combination. Gold blade will work well too. A gold blade can be teamed with either black or brown skirts. |

| I told a friend of mine when he first started he only needs 3 baits. These are very easy for anybody to use and they catch fish.
1. Topraider
2. Cowgirl
3. Bulldawg
Like the other guys are saying, a Cowgirl can tire you out so you can choose from the 100's of other bucktails on the market. And really anything you throw will likely get bit if you throw the right cast at the right time. |

Thanks for the tip, I would always switch lures and never even get a bite, how often should I change lures? Other people have said hours what do you think?

Think conditions and matching lures to the proper techniques for the waters and structural elements you intend to fish. I have a feeling that suicks would for some reason work really well if its overcast or is about to rain, I do t remember where I heard this but is it right?

Location: NE Twin Cities Metro | The first baits I focused on are these. Topwater, topraider, can't go wrong on presentation and built tough. Crankbait, 7.5 inch grandma or slammer (forget which was first), can be straight cranked, twitched or trooper between 3 to 7 or so feet. Bucktail & spinnerbait, one of each, a tax dog spinner and hirschs ghost tail (fluted blade). Next, for deep and shallow, go with a regular sized bulldog, bigger ones can wait until you are more equipped (big fish still eat reg dogs). Lastly, and my favorite, a weighted 9 inch suick. Love the suick, just don't be discouraged if it runs funny, they require tuning. What I love about suicks is that you work it, make all the magic, and it runs shallow enough that you can see everything, which I think lowers the learning curve since you see the fish strike or react. With this options, you can cover most situations. |

| I know you asked about lures, but it is very important to have quality release tools! A good set of bolt cutters, net, large pliers, and jaw openers for sure! You may already have these, and if so I apologize - just some friendly advice on something that goes overlooked at first. |

Hey man, don't forget to stop back during the season to grab some more info, make a few friends and hopefully hit the water with some guys who have an open seat. The more time you spend here the more people you will meet in your area, and the more info you will get for your time on the water |
