| I have a C4 that I may have to replace the drive shaft (threads are stripping off). Just wondering if there is anything else I should upgrade while I have the reel apart. Thanks! |

| I would look at the drag washers while I was in there . If it has carbon drag washers they should be fine..
Just curious is it a left or right hand reel? Seems to me the left hand reels are more prone to this issue.. If you can't come up with the parts.. I have a used one your welcome to. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Drag washers if they are old and if the reel hasn't been lubricated in a long time the clutch arm may be worn.
Use wd-40 and an old tooth brush to clean up the gunk and relubricate everything while you have it apart. I leave my drag washers dry in all my reels and clean them with brake cleaner if they get greasy.
Be careful not to lose the circlip at the end of the drive shaft when disassembling the reel. |

| I had it cleaned in 2011 when I was trying to fix the problem. I thought it was just the nut stripping out, but after I disassembled it, I noticed that some of the threads on the driveshaft were missing or rounded off. It is a right handed reel that Abu Garcia sold me inexpensively because they wouldn't touch my Eon. |

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Here are some upgrades U can do to your C4
1 - AR Pawl Brake Plate
2 - Carbontex Drag Kit
3 - ABEC 7 S. Steel spool bearings lubed with TSI 301 dry lube
4 - I would install a set of 5.3:1 gears, for more cranking power, the C4 has 6.3:1
5 - Ceramic Level Wind Pawl
6- Dual Bearing Level system, the C4 has a 1 bearing system
7- Dual Bearing Idler Gear
8 - Install a 4 Bearing Carbontex Handle
9 - Polish the spool tips and shaft, also the inside of the pinion gear and install brass spool washers
Now your C4 has 11 Bearings !!!!!!!!!!
and if you are good at casting remove the 6 spool braking sytem and install a 2 brake system, but U will have to use a thumb when casting but with the 2 brake system my 6500 will out cast any other musky reel period !!!!!!!
U can buy all parts listed above from UT Reel Technology and Mike's Reel Repair, but the parts are not cheap, most of my 6500 I have over $300 - $400 plus in upgrades. |

Let us know when we can start sending in some reels, I know you have a backlog into July right now. If you can give me an address, I can get them boxed and send them anytime. Won't be using them until repairs can be done properly. I suck at it!
Thanks,
Mike |
