I read an old post on here where a guy talked about puting pre mixed gas in the oil tank. That way if the injector worked great, if it did not he was still fine because he was also running pre mixed in his main tank. My question is has anyone on here ever tried that and how did it work for you?
Thanks,
HH

Most people just disconnect the VRO and run the premix in their main tank. Dont even bother with the VRO tank.

That is what I would like to do but if you shut off the vro it also shuts off all of the alarms that the motor has that monitors temp and such.

Hiya,

What year is the motor? The reason I ask is that in the beginning stages of the VRO systems, they did have some problems and the fix was to just block it off and do a premix. As the years progressed, the VRO system was made much better and in the motors I ran with them, they were flawless...

Hiya,

With the Mercury, there should be no issue at all as the injection system on that rarely every failed....

The 96 should be just fine. If it is working, I doubt it would cause any issue now.

Basically, if it isn't broke, don't fix it...

Both of you should be good to go...

Mine is disconnected and the alarms still work. It conveniently gave me room for a fourth battery. 2000 Johnson 115.

With the Mercury be carefull of overheating the motor. The oil pump is driven by a plastic gear on the crankshaft, overheating can damage this gear, as can over revving the motor.

I personally don't trust any of the VRO systems, have seen too many fail and ruin motors. I have seen pumps as new as 2-3 years old fail.
