Location: Eagan, MN | I'm looking at Lake Vermilion as I write this. There is still 26+ inches of nice white ice. Most of the snow is gone around here, except for areas of shade or drifting. There is still about a three foot high snow drift next to my deck. They are predicting colder temps and snow over the next few days, which will prolong the agony of this loooooong winter. It's going to be a while for ice out here. Easily into mid-May, maybe later.

Location: Minnesota | What "melt"?
I still have over a foot of snow in my yard. The lakes are pretty much down to slush (up to 12") on top of anywhere from 26" - 32" of ice from what I have seen and heard. If we get a windy day like today in another week or so we might see some impact but for now there is still some ice fishing to do. |

| There's a couple guys currently ice fishing in Isle bay on Mille Lacs as I type this. I usually fish ML on walleye opener but this year there will more than likely be ice floating around.

Location: Maple Grove, MN | Great excitement in the metro - the ice came off of Minnetonka yesterday. Yaaaay! So, are people in northern MN going to be driving south for Walleye opener? Open water does seem to help..... |

Location: Maple Grove, MN | I expect the metro and most lakes from the ice-out line and south to be very busy next weekend. I guess one could fish the rivers up north. The fishing will probably be slow on the lakes that are open and the rivers, with warmer water, might give one a better chance. I suppose the crappie fishing might be good. |
