Location: The desert | Buying a duck hunting boat with a 15 hp 1998 merc on it. Previous owner set it up as a center console and if possible if like to convert back to a tiller. Is this possible? How difficult would it be? |

Location: MN | That should be pretty easy Mike. I know guys that took the center bench out of a 16ft flat and didn't add stringers. The only thing that might be tough is finding the tiller arm for your motor. What blind are you putting on it? I've got the Avery quick set on mine and love it. It sets up in about 10 seconds and keeps the wind out. I've hunted out of the beaver tail blinds and they're pretty nice to. |

The boat actually comes with a custom made blind fitted for the boat. I don't believe the boat was originally set up as a console, but it was turned into one by the previous owner. I believe I should be able to remove the console with little issue and the boat would still be the same, structurally as it was when it was built. I could be wrong. I don't pick the boat up until the 6th so I'll likely no more then. |

October 5th for us, I'm guessing. Usually always the first Saturday in October. Wish I could hunt right now, we've got some dandy cinnamon teal hanging around our marsh. |

When you get the boat, post some pics? should be pretty easy to tell if the center console is added -vs- being an original piece of equipment in the boat.

I can do you one better and post one now. I think it is fairly apparent that this was added on.
As mentioned earlier, and I hadn't thought of this, but the tough part may be finding the a tiller handle for the motor.

Location: Elgin, IL | Mike, that should make a nice light rig for you. And thankfully, it looks like the guy who had it didn't chop out that middle seat, which you probably need for support. It has alot of potential.
Keep us posted with your progress, I've had the pleasure of owning a few nice duck hunting rigs, we hunted alot offshore back in the day here in IL. It makes a huge difference to be mobile, and yet cover up well. I like to see what guys do these days to hunt out of their boats. Good luck with the project. |

Location: The desert | Mark, this boat comes with a custom blind set up. I've got a picture but can't post it from my iPhone. I think it is going to be a pretty sweet hunting rig. I've already got a handful of spots that this will be great for. I'm ready for fall! |

Location: one foot over the line | With it being a 15hp, i wouldn't worry about structural issues at all. A few duck boats ago, I ripped a center seat out of a 16 foot riveted and put a 23hp go-devil longtail on it. Ran that rig for 3 years, jumpin beaver dams, logs, stumps, islands, and whatever else i could find, no problem. For a possible tiller handle, try: Holmen Marine (608-526-3345). They are my local outfit that just might have something. |
