| Looking for opionions on reel. pros and cons of the Cardiff or save more for the Record? or dont waste the money and save up for the Revo toro winch or Calcutta? would rather not spend over $200 and if Cardiff has reliability looking in that direction. Thanks.

Location: Grand Marais, MN | if the question is cardiff or record, get the cardiff. I have two of them that i have fished hard the last two years, thrown everything with them and have had no problems
if you think you'll be into musky fishing for a while, dont waste your money on a cardiff. get a calcutta or revo, they will also last a long time and be better overall |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Yeah if your going to be in it for awhile, you want to put that money towards a reel like Revo, a Calcutta< Saltist. SOmething to that effect. You can easily find one on here for less than 200 used. Or ebay is always a good place as well.
But if choosing between the two, get the Cardiff |

Location: Central Minnesota | I love all my shimanos. I haven't used the Cardiff but I'm sure it is a great reel for that price point. I had an Abu record and it was an ok reel but not nearly as good as my shimanos. I would also suggest either saving your money for a Calcutta 400 d or finding a used Calcutta for a good price. |

Location: Denmark | No simple answer, but IMO both have their pros and cons.
The Cardiff is not made with the same high tolerances as the record, and from somehow slightly inferior materials. On the other hand, the Cardiff have a backup AR, something quite important when trowing and ripping HW baits, especially in cold weather.
The Cardiff sounds like,... pulling a pig by its tail when casting it, here the Record sounds more like a hummingbird(due to better tolerances). ABU casts better, always ;).
Both reels will last for many years with the right maintenance, and both are pretty even in quality. For lighter baits, I would chose the Record, for a little heavier baits, I would chose the Cardiff. |
