I am going to start making my own wind up leaders with Hollow Ace and I would like to know if any of you know exactly which needles to get.
I'm going to be using 150# and 200# flourocarbon.
I will be ordering them from Melton Tackle and I want to be sure I'm ordering the right sizes and not getting un needed supplies.

All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lance

DAHO has a chart, you can usally find it on most sites. Charkbait has a pretty good chart that tells you which DAHO model you want for which size of Flouro. You'll also want a canvas or large sewing needle for the splice end of the hollow ace to make the loop. Other components: Some sort of light braid to the do the wraps and a means to wrap it efficiently. You'll also want some superglue to finish the wraps and splice. IMO a little glue at the end is an additional layer of security. Also, don't forge that you need some 5 minute Epoxy and either a welded loop or a high quality swivel for your Flouro to attach to. Make sure you have all the pieces before you start, or you'll get hung up in the process.

Key points:
When you assemble the pieces, Make sure your line is under tension. Any amount of give in the hollow ace when you do your wraps is bad news. What I do is have a spare piece of lumber with a nail sticking our of one end and then a bucktail vice on the other. I can vary the leader length by moving the vice. (You want a shorter leader for gliders IMO)

Make sure you sand the flouro, you want it a bit course, it helps the hollow ace "grab" the line

The wraps are critical. Expect to spend 10 minutes wrapping the crap out of the hallow ace to flouro connection. If you fail to do this you will have it fail.

For the splice, don't skimp on the tag end. Hollow ace is cheap comared to flouro, so make a ton of the "weaves" so it doesn't come apart.

In General, I do the epoxy dipped knot first as that needs time to set up. Then I just try to mass produce them, repeated each step over the leaders I am making. The process is a bit tedious (especially the wraps) but once it is done it is done for the entire season.

Do not forget to bridle on some owner rubber beads about 15" up your leader. This protects your rod tip and is a nice tool to know the ideal length to stop your retrieve and execute a figure 8. (The supre glue helps here as well)
