With the crazy weather happening lately, looks like possibility that some of the big lakes like Minocqua chain/Lake Tomahawk I normally head to may still be iced in on opener. Looking for some smaller lake recomendations for action water on smallmouth bass to take daughter and nephew on opener that should be ice free? size of smallies doesnt matter they just like action.

Pretty sure most all lakes up here will still be frozen. 25 plus inches on the small lakes and 30 ish on the big water that I measured this weekend

Not sure where you are located, but Mendota and Monona might be ice free by the opener. We have had plenty of rain and warmer temperatures during the day, but nothing is guaranteed, and neither lake is that small either.

Yep, doesnt look like any warm ups to melt the ice I guess. I live in Merrill, so will just have to continue fishing the river unless things change.

Southestern wisconsin lakes are almost all open after rain and wind all week. Switching winds took out most of the ice 4-10-13. I would think the Madison lakes will be open also after todays winds. Muskies will be spawning opening weekend around here for sure. Late cold Spring should help keep the weeds down some this year. Last year was nuts. Way too much weed growth too early. Choked out lots of great areas. This year should be better!!!
