so I just bought a trolling motor minnkota power drive 80 # for 19 foot deep v tuffy seems under powered? but the battery's are old ,, my question is should this motor be able to push the boat around pretty good seems if you had a lot of wind you would be bumming, new battery's make a difference?

Start with having the batteries load tested and verify you have 24 volt to the trolling motor....

Second the above post get those batteries tested, new ones could make a big difference.

Sounds to me like you have the batteries wired in parallel. Verify you have 24v at the plug.

My friend accidentally hooked his batteries back up in parallel and the motor would run but was obviously dogging, then it would beep and automatically shut off after a few minutes. Switched the wires around on the batteries to run in series and no problems.

thanks for the advice I will take the battery's up and have them tested.. I did make sure the system was running 24 volt at the plug, it has power just not alot, I had terrova 101 on my boat before and could throw people outta the boat if it was on full power. this motor does not seem to "jump" when ya hit the gas just kinda dogs out
