Remove the hook, push the eye of the hook into the body of the grub slightly less than the shanks length from head of the grub and push lenghwise until the eye comes out the end.

esox assault makes an awesome hollow bodied grub that is perfect for that.

I use an awl to make the hole in the grub body. Its much truer than if I try to ram the hook eye into the grub body.

I use an old style large brass snap swivel attached to the same ring as the hook and thread the trailer on to the snap

You can also take a scrap piece of wire and make an "eye" on one end and bend the end to form a tight "u". Secure the "eye" end to the split ring and slip the grub over the "u" end. The grub will remain on the rigging and not slip off.

Esox assault !! Great people and awesome products. Like others have said you can just take the hook off and slide a tail on the shank but those grubs by esox assault are very nice and not priced to bad.

I like to cut a small hole (5/16" dia.) in the body of the grub tail and feed the shank of the hook thru the inside of the body. Same way when rigging a "Fishtail" to the rear hook of a lure.
It will never come off!

Those Esox Assault grubs also work to just make a slit and super glue them on... faster when on the boat and only takes seconds to dry...

Almost every bucktail I have has the rear hooks shrinkwrapped. Do you just use new shrinkwrap when you put the grub through the hook shaft?

Actually if you leave the grub a little long you can snake it up over the split ring and the bucktail shaft and it works just like shrinkwrap tubing.

That's what I was thinking, but wanted advice from someone who has done it before. Thanks.
