Just got a humminbird 998 and 858 and I was wondering which size mount everyone uses for units this size? Ive looked at both the 1.5" and 2.25". I want to know if the price differenceis worth it. Thanks!

With the bigger screens, get the HD version (2.25" ball). I've got this for my 858, works great! A bit pricey, but worth it, the smaller mounts won't have enough strength to hold the unit up, especially in rougher water.

You need the 2.25... here's a link that you might find helpful; http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=83...

Caleb recommended a Stabil mount that looked pretty good too. GL

Yup, I agree with everyone else.

I run 2 - 1198's and I've got the biggest mount ram makes.

It's well worth the money considering what the cost of a new unit would be if it went overboard

I've got the 2.25" ram mount on my 898 and it works o.k. If I was to do it over I would get the Cisco mount...my buddy got one for his 998 and it is awesome!

Those cisco mounts are rock solid for sure. I have a RAM Mount 2.25" for my HDS 10 and havent had an issue with it. it is plenty strong and my unit never moves once it is tightened down. Granted, it isnt mounted on the bow, which will take more abuse. Dpeending on where you are mounting it may play a part in your decision. I have only seen the cisco mounts and have never owned one but the look great, and the guys that have them love them. I personally cant say a bad thing about the RAM mount.

I used the STABIL Mounts up Front and it is rock solid. I in dashed an HDS 7 and just screwed in a mount to mount an additional HDS 7 on top of it. Gives me a ton of viewing options of splitting screens for Map and Sonar, and Down Scan and Side Scan on the dash.
