| I have a 97 Ranger 681vs and I am looking at newer used motors. Anyone know what kind of performance I could expect with a 90 4 stroke?
Thanks |

| I've asked this question before to other owners and have consistently heard a 90 hp would work on a 681c, but is not a good option on a 681vs. |

| I would think you could expect tiller type speed with that motor..
Not Ideal, but I guess it would work.. I''m guessing with the right prop it would get you on plane fine, but probably only do mid 30s.. |

| For what its worth, I have a 681C, not VS. It has a 70hp on it and I get 33mph. |

| I asked this same question on this board when I repowered my 681vs. I could have gotten a sweet deal on a 90 Etec, but was talked out of it as the 681's max hp is 130/135 depending on the year and with a 90 it would be "significantly underpowered." Ultimately I went with a 115 Etec and I'm glad I did. I get a great hole shot and see low to mid 40s with a load. To be honest, there are days I wish I'd gone to the 130, but I never regret not buying that 90. Good luck to ya!

| Thanks for all of the replies. Looks like I may need to bite the bullet and spend more for a 115-135.

| go big or go home...however 90 would not be underpowered as a 618 T comes with 90 hp max and it is a heavier hull than 681 |
