| I bought a Delta Shopmaster Utility Sharpener yesterday at Lowes for 39.95. My intentions were to sharpen some tools in the shop. I gotta say this tool is an exellent value. It has a water bath gear reduced stone with tool rests on both sides and a forward/reverse switch. It did a great job sharpening my Leatherman's blades. So then I got a great idea. Hook sharpening! This is thebest and fastest way to sharpen hooks that I have found so far. I may just have to buy an inverter so I can put this baby on the boat.
This year I think I will sharpen every hook in the box before I venture out for the season opener....................................RAZE |

| Howdy Raze - a tip for after you sharpen them hooks: paint the bare metal of the hook with permenant magic marker to retard future oxidation. (I always use a red marker.) Plus, the fabric tip of the marker will catch on any tiny hook tip burs that you may have missed with your little device, too. Just a tip I picked up somewhere along the line - seems to work for me. |

I'm glad you mentioned that felt tip marker. Toko,a ski wax manufacturer, has a product that I have used for years to prevent the ski's metal edges from rusting in the off season. It is just like you mentioned a felt tipped marker dispenser with a rust inhibitor. Never thought to try it on the hooks............Thanks, RAZE |

| Is this why when in I sharpen my hooks.Put them away then come back later they don't seem to be as sharp.Could this just in my head?

| You are so right Plitzzz. That is why I am toying around with the idea of a pyramid shaped tackle box. The longer they sit, the sharper they get. |
