Upset family members.

A post I replyed to earlier today got me thinking. I have to miss (Per my wife's insistance) Saturday afternoon and Sunday of the Chicago show in order to attend my niece's wedding. I'm fighting it but I don't think I'm going to win.

This got me thinking. How many of you guys have missed family fuctions due to musky fishing. Two years ago, I missed my nephew's wedding because he planned it on opening day. What a putz! He and his wife still won't talk to me. Personally, I think I came out on the better end of the deal.

Last year, I had to miss an in-law's 40th birthday because I was going to be in Canada. He still gives me hell everytime he sees me.

They just can't seem to understand (even though I have told them over and over again) not to include me in too many things in the summer. I do however make all the family events in the winter.

Anybody else have this problem? It would be nice to know I'm not alone.

Nope Pat, I think way to much of my family to ever miss a function because of my Muskie fishing affliction. I am sure that you will find that you are the only one EVER that has missed even a third cousins 1st popped pimple because of this sport. I know for sure that IIIII would never miss anything with the family to go fishing. Yeah right!!!!!! I can here Worrall and Hintz laughing all the over here. A better question for me woud be, when was the last time you made it to a family function during fishing season? Answer, in Oct. 2001 when my brother got married. I was in the wedding so I had to leave the tourney I was fishing in 2 hours early to change clothes and get my Tux on what a waste of valuable fishing time. He was extremly lucky I came at all. LOL x 100 Seems tome I missed my dads wedding also. Well thats theway it goes with a fisherman inthe family. By the way, I got married in April, no season open here and the ice was on the water. muskyaddict,
I'm pretty certain you're not the only one encountering this situation. In the last 25 years, the only family function I've attended during musky season was my son's high school graduation. I only fished a half day in the morning that day!
My wife is pretty good about this. She doesn't get on my case from early May through mid November. Of course, I try to make up for it from mid November through early May.
It seems fair to me.

My daughters birthday is May 25th. This always seems to fall somewheres on the Wis. opener. Needless to say in the 12 years we've celebrated her birthday, I have only missed the opener one time. That was when she was born. Otherwise we celebrate a day or two earlier.

My brother and I fished til noon on my wedding day and the wifey and I were pounding the water together two days later. There has to be some give and take, but, if she understands your passion, not too much give, when your days on the water are so few and precious. Give her a quality family day, and, maybe she can give you a day at the shows?[:halo:]

I missed a Milwaukee Muskie Expo once....because I was dumb enough to not check my calender and I got married the Saturday of the show.

I was not dumb to get married....just the wrong timing...

Never do that again![]

I am known by my friends as the $hit Weasel because I am always skipping out on events to fish. I am starting to realize that there is a little more to life then fishing. My resolution is to do at least a couple more things my family wants me to do this year.

Damn Luke!! The family got to ya huh? Time to snap back on track and get on the water!!!! Come back to the dark side!! Only thing i missed was a buddies wedding and that was because he let me know about it AFTER i had made reservations with my bro for Canada for a week. My Son was born the third week of May and my twin boys are due early May this year so they will have to pay me back for missing 2 SPRINGS IN 3 YEARS!!!![]

I know a guy who got married the saturday of the chicago show last year.[;)]

I have to miss the new london musky show every year. I have my kids on their spring break and the day it is on is a drop off day. Not enough time to make the 3.5hr drive up there. If it were a two day show, I could go.

My best friend Dales fiance decided they had to get married on the Opener. Knowing her domination of him I'm sure it was on purpose. I was the best man and Dale and I decided we could get in at least 3 or 4 hours in the morning since he wasn't getting married until 2:30. We were having too good a time and I couldn't get the guy off the water until 1:00 and we had to drive over an hour to get home. We both got to the Church 45 minutes late and for his sake I decided to take the blame. His parents and his wife have hated me since.

Your dog is the only member of the family that you get to choose.

Missed 2 wedding anniversaries (mine) and the warden's birthday at least 4 times and still counting as I go merrily about my addiction! []
