So I was looking over that "lighter side" thread. and one of my buddies said a good spin off would be nick names for big gurls that have eluded you time after time. Evey one has one, and if you don't your a lucky man/woman.

Personally I have a fish. I always see her in the same spot (well same bay) she has a very distinctive mark on her back. Her name is Janet Reno. I have hooked into her 7 times now and not once has she ever made it to the net. There was this one time I was fishing with my wife. Fishing by some docks burning dbl 10s. I got her to come out from the weeds and go into the figure8. She went around three times. During this my wife hooked a small Lrg mouth bass. Within one second Janet had shot under the boat like a rocket, hit my wife's bass and took it right off the hook. It was maybe only 5 ft from my boat and she came all the way out of the water to hit that bass. I swear she looked over at me as if to mock me. I know, shes a fish. But She is haunting me. I try to get her every trip, sometimes I get hooks in (not good enough obviously) and sometimes she just swims past. Id sa she is about 45"-47". Nothing huge, but in pain in my azz. I am not sure I will ever get her, maybe she will make me wait till she hits 50" ( I have never boated a 50). Either way, I will continue to try.

Whats your story?

Me and a buddy were fishing right in front of the Lola's restuarant on Waconia. Hook up with a smaller fish in front everyone, does a few jumps and what not, get the net out, and the stupid thing threw the dawg back out at me in front of the whole restaurant. Could hear the "Ohhhh's" in the crowd.

It was 2011 and was my second time muskie fishing. I was casting off my dock. I got an awesome hit right at my feet from under the dock. At the time I had smaller net (smaller than a muskie net but bigger than a walleye net) and could only fit HALF the fish in it. The fish shook the lure out and was sitting in the bag half in the water and half in the net. I wasn't in a good position to grab the fish so I accidentally let her go out of the net. Even though I didn't get a picture or measurement, I got one of her teeth as a souvenir. Definitely a great first fish (and yes I am counting it!). I don't know how big the fish is and won't try to guess, but she is pretty big. I've seen her 2 other times and know someone who has seen her a couple times in the same 50 ft area as well. We tried swimming around the bay with an underwater camera last summer to see if we could catch her on film, but didn't get any sightings.

I know sooner or later I will catch this fish and get a better look at it.

Her name is/was Shaniqua, she lives on lake Mckeown in longville, on the only piece of structure. It was one of the first years of fishing skis and she struck in the pouring rain in an orange ninja tube. Once she got close to the boat she threw the hook. Probably a dull hook on my part, didn't know enough then. Several times after I've gotten her to follow but never hook up. I'm guessing she's around 42-45" which is a stud on that chain of lakes

The Big Island B****

It started in November 2011... First glimpse was when she gnashed at a Glider and missed, showing me her full broadside. A week later she came in twice on tubes to the two guys casting in the boat. I had a sow of a sucker sitting on a bubber about 20' behind the boat. After teasing on the 2nd follow she veered off... right to the sucker. She followed the minnow for over 200'... and didn't eat.

Post turnover 2012 in October I saw her catching a tan as I was in mid retrieve. She followed, danced for 2 turns and left. A few days later I was fishing with BTurg and we saw her grabbing a tan. We snuck up behind her and BTurg but about the most subtle presentation you can imagine right in front of her face. She wiggled her rear at us and left.

About a month later I think somebody finally caught her. I'm still trying.

About 5 years ago I moved a 53ish on opener 3 times. A loon was chasing my bait at the same time which must have thrown her off. One week later we moved her again about 50 yards away. Then the next week my buddy threw out his kickin minnow while we were idling by the spot. I was tying my leader on and as I said we were going over some shallow weeds, he gets her to eat. He was draging her across the surface for a few seconds and the hooks came out. Bummer... I heard that someone kept a 53 off that spot soon after. Even bigger bummer.

My first time steelheading on the north shore, I caught about a 4 pound looper. My buddy says to me "wash the sand off for the picture". As soon as I put it in the water she thrashed right out of my hands and took off. There were probably 30 guys fishing the same hole and the whole crowd erupted in laughter! I was very bummed! Steelhead have never been good to me.

There is a deep water cut into a small rock reef on V where a high 40s always sat. If the cast angle is correct she'll normally come out to play. Throughout last year we had her up many times and hooked/lost her once. A friend finally gave her the name "The B*tch" after she elluded our net once again. Pretty sure her picture is in 2012 Big Fish pics; I emailed my buddy and to inform him that someone finally caught The B*tch of Turkey Toe Reef.

Most other big fish get the name "Big Bertha" or "Blondie".

First big fish I ever saw nipped at my bait and swam past me with tinsel and marabou sticking out of her mouth. Spent the night in the cabin cutting all the hair of the back of all my bucktails.

The next year we had a fish up on Heitings 13 times over the course of a few days. We figured her to be 53 - 54" Threw everything I had at it. Closest I came was her behind a Weagle, bumping it with her nose all the way back to the boat. Eat it, Eat it, Eat it...

Last day of the trip she actually took a shot at my bait, right in front of me. Missed the bait, bonked into the trolling motor, and that was that.

Then there was Blondie... Biggest fish I have ever seen. Came out of the weeds behind Skye's reef on a bright sunny day. Roaring in, in fact. My first thought was "what the hell is THAT?!" because it was just THAT big, and it was the weirdest color I've ever seen on a muskie. Straw colored. Wider than my boots. Comin' to eat. As I went into my first turn, Samantha started hopping up and down screaming "Oh my GOD, you got her, she's HUGE!!" Big fish ain't scared of much, except a person jumping up and down in the boat. Well, Blondie took off, leaving a nice cloud of poop in the water. Got a hefty 4 footer about 20 minutes later. Blondie dwarfed that fish. Never saw her again. Probably never will.

There were a few others that I just plain f-ed up. But those three I will never forget.

Definitely have a vendetta for a particular fish that sits in a specific spot...

... this is the first time she has ever opened her mouth for a bait. Sometimes, I suck.

Mine is a 45-46" fish on the local river- big fish for this area. The first time I saw her I was with a buddy and I was talking and not paying attention when my bait was getting close to the boat. Because I wasn't paying attention, I was slowing my retrieve when she hit. Needless to say, she hit in front of the lure and had nothing but a mouthful of leader. When she hit, I turned and saw my bait flopping around on the far side of her head as she did several head shakes, let go of the leader, and swam off. I felt like such a schmuck. I've seen her several times since and have had her follow but haven't been able to close the deal. This has been going on for 2 years now.

At the end of a cast with an Invader I set the hooks and nothing moves. I'm 6'5", had a St. Croix Heavy power rod. The rod is bent like I snagged a tree, and there is a pause. My friend looked at me, and we watched the water. Out comes a head shaking, and then the lure came out. Big head, very dark green. That was that. Biggest fish we've seen, and we've both got 50's, raised 52-55's before. Big fish, big fish...

First fish over 50" in the bag. Cheers and celebration, then the beast bit a hole in my frabil big game and swam free. Would have released but wanted to get my hands on the beast. Have the whole thing on video. Thanks Frabil for the replacement bag but would of rather had the fish! Til the next time!!!

Can't say that I have had multiple follows or strike by the same fish, but do have a couple interesting stories. My very first musky encounter happened about 8 years ago. We don't have many musky in Nebraska and I grew up fishing bass and pike.
So I was fishing my favorite lake in Nebraska throwing a bass spinner (1/4 oz.) and about 25 -30 feet from the boat noticed a very large fish starting to follow my spinner. I first thought pike, but as it got closer to the boat I could see the markings and color. I just kept saying "hit it, come on hit it". When the fish got about 6 feet from the boat she rolled and truned and was gone. She was in the upper 40s" and was easily pushing 30 lbs+. From that point forward I've been hooked.
A few years later my son and I were fishing the same lake and while trolling I got snagged up. I must have put more pressure on my line than I thought, I now retie almost to often. Anyway about 2 hours later after a couple days of fishing and no action. Boom about a mid-40s hit a giant jointed thunderstick, I leaned back to set the hook and snap, my line breaks about 15 feet from the fish. Thge ole girl starts throwing her head, like an alligator on top the water. After about 20 seconds she throws the lure and is gone.
The musky lake in Nebraska is very different than Lake of the Woods, fish very seldom follow and most often hit like a pike out away from the boat, no rocks or boulders in Nebraska....

I've got a big fish that likes to haunt two places on a lake I fish. 51-52 or so. Father in law had her up as his first follow ever, probably in his first dozen casts. She wanted to eat his 'tail, but he wanted to point at the fish instead of going into the figure 8. She slowly sunk away and that was when a 45 handcuffed me as I was watching her sink away. Missed that fish too. That was a bad five minutes in my boat. Not only did I have to explain my whiff and why my father in laws fish didn't eat, then I had to convince him that musky fishing wasn't this easy.

She has a distinctive mark on her head, kind of between the eyes. I've seen her in another spot and swear I'll get her yet. But so far all I have are memories of follows.

My big fish experience was as a youngster... My dad had been musky fishing since i had been born and soon after i caught my first fish while we were perch fishing he found me a bass sized bait casting setup and a small purple live action lure. We were out fishing one evening on the deep side of a weed edge in mid summer on a gin clear lake. As my lure started to come up from the depths I saw what looked to be a 5 gallon bucket behind trying to engulf my lure. Having never seen a fish of that size before in my life i froze and just stopped reeling. My dad was watching the hole the thing. I can still remember him uttering, "holy Sh!+... uhh... reel in your lure and throw it right back out there and if she comes back take her through the 8." I can remember that fish like it was yesterday. I never named that fish but she is the cause for my addiction.

My one that got away was just after graduation(Col.)1989. She must have been interested for a while based on what she said upon approaching me, and I thought WOW. She lived out of town, but her parents lived near me ,so we saw each other a few times. Her dad had an exceptional job, and she was very determined to make it in the bussiness world. I went to visit her in Minneapolis, had great time, but realized we were too different. I didn't want to live in big city, wanting to fish, hunt and hang with buddies, she wanted to make it big. I felt bad leaving, reallizing it wasn't gonna happen, and cut contact to ease the pain. Haven't talked since.Things are great now, great wife, wouldn't trade for anything, but she was "the one" that got away.
