Nope, I don't see the need and even take them off and don't use them.

Jerry, Unless your boards come with tattle flag kits I think you're just referring to the flags themselves you took off, not the tattle flag set up.

Tattle flags work great for detecting light bites, small fish and weeds while walleye fishing with walleye sized cranks and harnesses but Im not sure if the flag kits could handle the pull/drag from most bigger musky baits. Might work well for 6" Grandmas and the like and you might be able to upsize the tension spring. But never know until you try, I havent yet because those tattle flag kits are expensive, $20/board. Run 6 boards, the cost of an offshore with an or18 clip is already 40 some dollars plus $20 for the tattle and you've got $360 in boards...

They look easy to make. A piece of .051 wire and a spring at home depot. I fish lakes with weeds and would love to figure out the right setting so I will know when I have a weed on my lure as I cannot tell when using boards.

I went to home depot and got a assortment of springs. I will post back my results.

Yes, I was talking about those flags that come with the offshore boards.  I don't see how a tattletale flag would be anything other than a nuisance though, especially in rough water.  If you know the area and watch your electronics the first mate should be able to stay on top of it.

The flags are incredibly easy to make yourself and much much cheaper to do so as well. I did it to 4 of my boards for walleye & brown trout - don't think they'd work well for muskie baits unless you get a beefed up spring.

Here's a couple how to sites: http://perchjerker0.tripod.com/home%20made%20tattle%20flags.htm

I used the spring listed & it works awesome for browns/walleyes!

Parts list for 1 OffShore board:

1" #6 stainless machine screw
2 nylon washers (or stainless)
1 CR-73 spring
Whatever wire you have (I had some leader wire & worked great)
A few beads

Jerry, I fish by myself or with a friend most of the time, I don't have a green horn.

scmuskies, I got several different weight springs. I don't see the need for the beads. I made mine yesterday and they work great. I am going to start off running my rattle baits off them then later on I will do more testing to see what lb spring I need for the larger crank baits. I precision troll and I like to tell if I have a twig or grass fouling my lures.
