Location: Madison, WI | I am wondering if anyone can help me out with a lure repair. I have an old Rapala Mag 18 Floating Wobbler with a broken bill. Open to any ideas on getting it back on the water. The lure is not worth a great deal, but may be worth enough for a repair. I am located in the Madison, WI area. Photos of the broken lure are attached. I also have examples of the lure in an unbroken state for a pattern of the original bill.
If anyone thinks they can fix it, let me know, and we can see if we can work something out. I just hate to throw away a favorite.
Thanks,
Dan Corfman

Location: Almost Heaven | If you have a Dremel tool, use a cutting wheel and cut along the top and bottom of the bill and take it out. Cut another lip from thin lexan or use a circuit board lip and epoxy it back in. I have used a heat gun on some by heating the old epoxy. Only problem is that yours is made of i assume balsa wood. I have pulled some out clean but, sometimes you may pull a chunk of wood out too.

Location: eagle river, wis | I have cut down the sides of the broken lip and then pulled it out with pliers.I have some new lips from bagley and grandma lures that I slide in the slot and super glue in and they work great. |

| I assume that is a through wire. Be careful not to cut the wire when cutting out the lip. I have done that before. |

Location: Madison, WI | I got the broken bill out without much ado. Thanks to all for the assistance. When I get a new bill, what is the best method for cutting it (assuming it is lexan)? I will have to cut a "V" notch out of the new bill - you can see from the attached pictures.
Thanks again,
Dan

Location: Almost Heaven | Dremel tool will cut and shape the lexan. If you need to notch it the Dremel will do it all. How did you get the ld lip out? Put the new lip in with quick 2 part epoxy and put lip where you want it and check for angle and straightness. I usually put a little piece of masking tape along both sides to keep the epoxy from dripping out around the slot. I remove the tape when the epoxy "starts" to set up and it will come off easy.

Location: Madison, WI | Started with a heat gun which promptly melted the bill (likely helped soften the epoxy though). Used a utility knife to cut along the joint which allowed me to pull the broken bill out via a pair of pliers. Could have been cleaner/better if I knew what I was doing (but good enough). I will need the notch. The bait is through wire construction, and it looks like removing the wood in the middle of the slot will get into the wire.

Location: Madison, WI | The bill I am looking for is:
1/8" thick
1" wide
1 and 3/4" long
round
I found something close at lurepartsonline (size 5):
http://lurepartsonline.com/Online-Store/Lure-Lips/Lexan-Lips-Rounde...
The issue is that I would end up paying $5 to ship $2.50 worth of product.
By chance does anyone have a couple of bills with these (or close) dimensions they would sell and ship in a letter envelope for a few bucks? I would rather get a couple in case I screw the first one up.
If so, let me know.
Dan

Location: Palm Coast, FL | Take a piece of paper and cut notch out so that it just fits in the bait. Use it to trace out where you need to cut on the lip with the dremel tool or a jig saw. |

Location: Madison, WI | Two really good ideas (paper template and roughing up the bill before epoxying).
Will do.
Thanks |
