| What is the best type of speed trolling rods for large spinner baits, wileys etc. Currently using a 10ft okuma mooching rod. there is flex in the tip but a stiff but. The problem is at speeds over 5 mph the rod has been vibrating the scotty rod holder right out of its 90 degree position. what is the answer to this dilema. a softer downnrigger type rod????[:((] |

| Nope, what you want is a stiffer rod like a jerkbait rod or a sucker rod. The vibration comes from the softness in the blank, so the stiffer the blank the less vibration. You can also see much better as to what your lure is doing out there as only the tip is vibrating and not the entire rod.[:sun:] |

| Rich is right - your rod is too limber. A mooching rod is essentially an elongated downrigger rod, with a similar action. If you like longer rods (as I do), then go to 9 to 10' dipsey diver rod. They have a lot more backbone, and only the upper 12 to 24" will vibrate, depending on the bait. If you go to a tackle store that carries both, you will SEE a huge difference in action between a downrigger/mooching rod, and a dipsey diver rod.
Aside from solving your rod holder problem, you'll also get more punch on your hooksets with the dipsey divers. That being said, try trolling a weighted 9" Sledge at 5 to 7 mph on the mooching rod. You can see the subtle action of the Sledge much better, and you get pretty hooksets because of its round body design and plastic construction. The Sledge won't give you the vibration issues that a lipped crankbait or big spinnerbait will at higher speeds either.

| St.Croix Pro-Glass Hvy 10 ft.Dypsey Rod |

| The Diawa Heartland-S series are also a good choice. They have several different models in different lengths. I have tried the Berkleys and there are definite quality issues with these rods. DON'T buy the Berkely Reflex series!!!!!
