I'm thinking about heading to Mille Lacs the week of the 4th of july, who would be a good guide to book for a day or two? Thanks

Paul Schlagel is a very good guide on the pond, over 20 + years experience. Hamernick knows his stuff also.

Jason Hamernick hands down. No one catches fish on that lake like he does.

Does Paul still guide on the Pond? I tried to get in contact with him last year with no luck and his website has zero activity for the last two years.

Paul is going to school, so he is a little harder to track down, but he is definetly still guiding on a more limited schedule. I would second him as a great resource.

I've heard good things about Steve Scepaniac with predator guide service. i have never fished with him, but I have run into him a time or 2 and hes willing to share info and whats been working and areas to look even though we weren't fishing with him

We've fished with Steve several times and always had a blast. Steve is a great guy, knows the lake well (20+ years of guiding on Mille Lacs) and will put you on fish.

Is it true that even the best fisherman can go a week without a catch at mille lacs?

That lake used to be good to me and now it's crushed me too many times so I'm bitter.

At least when you're beat down, you can drag lead-core for walleyes and catch 26"ers to get the spirits back up.

I would also strongly recommend considering Mike Hulbert. He guides on Mille lacs in late June and early July. I don't think ou can argue with his track record. He is on the water fishing in take with hammernick every single day. He puts monsters in the boat and I think that's been proven. After fishing with him a bunch last year, he would be my choice.

I second Mike Hulbert. He guides there in late June and is always around big fish. He knows what it takes to get you on fish and how to have a good time on the water
