| If I could only fish one lure from now on, I'd pick a topwater... Not because it is the most versatile, its just how I prefer to catch them. If the question is what is the most versatile lure? I get one lure that I think I can catch muskies on anywhere anytime of year...spinnerbait hands down. |

Just a super versatile bait from super slow and steady to ripping it or burning it. Smallmouth-muskies it's a good one.

Location: Northern Illinois | I allways told myself that if I go broke and have to sell all my muskie gear that I will at least keep one rod, reel and a gold bladed/black tail Mepps Muskie Killer. Very versatile-all around-great lure. It may also have something to do with the first 40+ inch fish that I ever had on the line that did a barrel roll and spit that lure back in my face four feet away from me(: |

Yup, without question a Large (8 oz) Hardhead. If I could only have one color the lighteye with rootbeer tail seems to work everywhere for me. Like Roger said, work them from just under the surface to as deep as you want, all year long.

Another one for a Hardhead with a variety of tails (I don't count these as extra lures) and weights. |

| If I am stranded in the wilderness with only one lure, it's got to be a spinnerbait. Its the only lure that can fish fast/slow, shallow/deep, and a variety of structure/cover.
