| I've noticed that some of my body baits I have, the paint tends to chip easily and that the protective finish seems thin? Is it possible / recommended to add more protective sealer to the bait? If so, what should I use?
If this in not the right forum for this topic, let me know and I'll remove it, but I'm so impressed with what you guys build, I thought for sure you could help, Thanks |

| I just started adding e-tex to my lures. I bought a brand new hellhound that had the reflective tape peeling up already so I made sure it was down and have put a couple of coats on it.
I have also done this with a balsa bait where the hook rash went through the foil down into the bait. I feel the gloss makes the lure look better too, and I get fairly mad when I use a brand new bait for a day, don't catch anything, and there is a ton of hook rash on it (I'm fine with teeth marks, but they are just too pricey to have hook rash so quick).
I think it is fine to do on larger baits, smaller ones it may affect the action some, hopefully some of the more knowledgable/experienced guys will chime in.

| Thanks...and you are right there is nothing more frustrating then having the paint come off after a days worth of fishing! I've read in one of these threads that a Finnish lure maker suggests dipping his baits in concrete lacquer...it seems easier for me than mixing the epoxy and dealing with bubbling and not having a wheel? Anyone have opinions on this approach? |

Location: Almost Heaven | This is pretty redneck but, When i have a bait that is getting rash or the clear is cracking and looking like it needs some love i do this. I mix a little Devcon 2 30 minute epoxy and put a little on my finger and rub it lightly on the bait in long smooth passes. I then get my heat gun and make a few passes over the area. You can clean the epoxy off your finger with laquer thinner or the wifes regular nail polish remover. This method will clean your bait up and not put a real thick coat of epoxy on your bait. Car body shops do touch up work why can't fishermen. LOL |

Location: S.W. WI | Ya, get some Devcon 2 ton epoxy (30 min) in the dual tube pack, ($3) and squeeze a little out/ mix up as needed for touch ups- or total coverage of lure with a sm. brush. You don't have to rotate, just hang
