Bad envirotex?

Subject: Bad envirotex?

Hi all,

I am in the process of trying envirotex on some lures. I bought some and ran a test. It worked great. So I mixed up some more, put it on my lures and it just wont harden. Tried another test and it worked great. Tried more lures and after a week, it's still soft and sticky. Could I have gotten a bad batch or does it not work over laquer paint? Help! I'm REALLY frustrated. I was hyper accurate on the 1:1 mixture and I stirred it until my arm hurt. Anybody have any clue as to why I can't get this to work. Room temp is 75 degrees. AAAARRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

Hi- sounds like it's not the batch- Try contacting the Envirotext folks- maybe they have a solution.

I did some lures about a month ago- no problems. Good luck.

Stir, stir and stir some more when mixing.
And make sure it's 1 to 1.

Try letting the mixed batch set for 10 to 15 minutes before coating. I have also found that if you have one coat that did not harden it takes longer for the next one to set up.

Its very hard to find but if you do try this product. Poxycoat two, its a one part epoxy that leaves a great finish on the baits. No waste and a great coat that has never peeled off on me ot the coating itself crack. Its not cheap but very good. Made by international coating and chemical company.

The only time I have had trouble is when it wasn't mixed exactly 50/50. Make sure you stir it until the cup is solid bubbles, then it will work just fine for you! Also dry in a warm area. Good luck! [:praise:]

Musky Addict,
There are two things that you must do precisely if you want constant good results.
As Bill said, make SURE you measure it EVENLY at one to one ratio.
Next is the stirring, Do NOT make all the bubbles you can. This eliminates your view of the mixture and is not a reliable thing to do. Mix the batch VERY THOROUGHLY and make sure the mixture becomes crystal clear and be sure to wipe the sides and bottom of the mixing cup and mix it in. You can see "swirls" if you look real careful and that means that the batch is not completely mixed. It can appear to be clear until you wipe the sides of the cup with the stir stick than you will see "swirls" again. When you can do all this and see no more swirls and a crystal clear mix you are ready to go. I warm my material up to about 70 to 75 degrees before measuring. That makes the material run a little easier and mix easier. Should you get a bunch of bubbles, you are not mixing carefully. It's not so much the bubbles as it is that you can't see into the batch as well. I keep about two gallon of this stuff at the shop at all times and I use an awful lot of it. Even then, once in a while I will get a batch that gives me a little problem. I wish that they would reformulate the material so it would more foolproof. But once you have used alot of it, you mistakes will be minute.
Hope this helps,

Stan,

I mixed up a batch and I can see what you mean. It's still drying so I don't know how well it worked. I called the envirotex people and they told me it could be possible I got a bad batch. They are sending me (at no charge) a new kit. Pretty nice of them. Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Muskieaddict, Your welcome and ETI are good people to work with they make a good product.
MuskyBum,
I like the Devcon two ton also but the working time and the amount of lures I have to coat doesn't allow for it's use as I would be forever making small batches. I do, however, use the Devcon to seal open pores in the wood before envirotecing them as to lock out any air escape that will cause havoc with the envirotec.
